Even More Movies You've Watched This Week

LOL! Nah, I don’t have the headshape or jaw for that.

Probably more like the above.

Oops… forgot to post this…

Horrible bosses - Expected so much more, I really like Sudakis, Day and Bateman…and it was good just not hilarious.

The Beaver - No not a vintage 70’s porn with hairy bush (unfortunately) this I believe is directed by Jodie Foster and stars Foster and Mel Gibson. Say what you want about Mel, hes a kick ass actor, and shows his chops in this one as well. The story revolves around a CEO of a toy company who loses his family and brain until he finds salvation through a toy beaver, sounds crazy I know but introspective and a very very good film.

Everything must go - With Will Ferrell in a semi-serious role, I say semi serious because you can never take him seriously. He stars a alcholic who loses his job and wife in one day and all his belongings are in his front yard. He befriends a lonely neighborhood boy and they decide to sell all his belongings. Along the way he confronts is issues (sort of) and at the end possibly has some hope. Another very good movie.

Ill see you…on demand

Marwencol

Compelling documentary of the fantasy world of Mark Hogancamp.

After being beaten into a brain-damaging coma by five men outside a bar, Mark slowly recovers and builds a 1/6th scale World War II-era town in his backyard. Mark populates the town he dubs “Marwencol” with dolls representing his friends and family and creates life-like photographs detailing the town’s many relationships and dramas.

Playing in the town and photographing the action helps Mark to recover his hand-eye coordination and deal with the psychic wounds of the attack. When Mark and his photographs are discovered, a prestigious New York gallery sets up an art show. Suddenly Mark’s homemade therapy is deemed “art”, forcing him to choose between the safety of his fantasy life in Marwencol and the real world that he’s avoided since the attack.

The Man from Earth.

Seriously, watch it people, it’s how storytelling should be done. It’s a compelling movie and it takes place all in the same house for a budget of around $200,000.

Anyone who enjoys having their brain melted should watch “Ink”. It portrays the struggles of life that man faces, but it is so much more. Its an amazingly done sci-fi type film (I’m not the biggest sci-fi fan and this film still made it into my top 10).

Don’t give up on it if it seems too confusing at first cuz at the end all the pieces fall in place.

The Thing.
I was really hoping for a Kurt Russel cameo. That aside, it could have been much better. Something was wrong with the volume in the theater and the alien’s screams inflicted physical harm on my ears. I wanted someone to kill the fucking thing just so it would shut up.
They should cast strong females in strong female roles. Otherwise I might as well watch a cartoon.

I re-watched the original over the weekend. The gore and jump scares still hold up. I wonder just how much karo syrup was harmed in the making of that movie.

“The Perfect Host”

This could have gone into the “Movies That Shoulda Sucked” thread.

Do not read the synopsis, do not view the trailer.
Just watch the film and be surprised. Devilishly entertaining. David Hyde Pierce was unexpectedly fantastic.

New movie? or been out for awhile, hopefully on Netflix

After seeing Drive, I tracked down the director’s first movie, Pusher, which is the first part in a trilogy.

I was a bit disapointed. I had heard it was all kinds of intense and violent and whatnot, and the storyline ended up being nothing really special. It’s also hard to apreciate a film that has one of the dumbest, most useless pieces of shit ever as a lead character. It’s still really entertaining, though, and I’m gonna check out the other two films.

Right now I’m roughly an hour into Ironclad, which is fucking awesome so far. Paul Giamatti, Brian Cox, and a bunch of other real badasses in the cast. It’ a great medieval siege film. Can’t wait to finish it tonight !

The Thing (1982)- may have seen this as a kid, don’t recall though. Good movie and as stated before the special effects were great for its time.

[Rec]- didn’t realize it was the same movie as Quarantine till several mins into it. Having watched both, they’re both good movies.

Silence of the Lambs- saw bits and pieces as a kid. Good movie, not scary at all, but a good movie.

Arachnophobia- been a few yrs since I’ve seen it. wife is afraid of spiders, so this was fun to watch together.

Watched Religulous by Bill Maher.

Not what it claims. This movie is about poking fun a religion with a big pointy stick. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a devout athiest but I find something wrong with tracking down the nut-jobs of religion and then saying ‘this is what all religious people are like’.

Still pretty entertaining though, just not nearly as comprehensive as Dawkin’s work.

Also saw a short documentary on the psychology of Batman

Not very in depth, but fun to watch.

Religious was great

Just watched Traffic last night for the first time… wow just wow. One of the best films I’ve ever seen.

haha I was planning on watching that tonight too. Noice. Let’s see…

13 Assassins - Samurais slicing people. Really freakin’ gory, nearly non-stop action towards the end, a pretty good movie overall.

Four Lions - a black comedy about four terrorists in Britain. Was pretty entertaining and goofy overall.

The King’s Speech - we’ve all heard of this one, simply a great movie. Even if drama-type movies isn’t your thing, you’ll like this. It’s also pretty fucking funny sometimes.

Let The Right One In - Swedish film about a bullied boy and a girl vampire. Good movie.

Animal Kingdom - aussie film, FUCKING AMAZING WATCH THIS.

Hellboy II - oddly, better than the first one. It was OK, as expected.

The Guard - Don Cheedle, FBI agent teams up with rural Irish cop. fucking hilarious movie. A+

Fast Five - actually pretty good, a lot better than the more recent Fast and the Furious movies. Decent action, stupid car chase at the end. A bit too unrealistic at times.
