Estrogen in food?

I read reader mail today and a guy asked about potential problems with drinking a lot of milk since maybe it contained all the extra hormones that they inject into the cos to make them produce so much milk. The response said something like - “protein-based hormones and growth factors get broken down in the gut just like any other proteins” - If this is true, then why is soy so bad? I thought that it was not good for men because it contained estrogenic compounds, but this response makes it sound like they would just get broken down by the liver and NOT have any of the bad effects on men?

Can anyone shed more light on this topic?

Thanks.

There are compounds in soy that have estrogenic properties, but the compounds themselves are not hormones.

See the difference?
