For the traditional knowledge

NB species is Ephedra sinica. Genus (i.e. Ephedra) and species (i.e. sinica) must be correct. Don’t go for Ephedra X (i.e. same genus different species). I hate to stress it but this is very important.

TimtheT-man California, USA

If you are in southern california (i.e. hot/dry climate) it would grow like a weed! Its natice habitat is the deserts of western China. Also related species grow in the dry backblocks of Eurasia and North America. But for safety on use sinca. IMHO.

RE Safety

The Chinese have been taking it traditionally (i.e. teas, honey tabelts) for a long time. They have worked out the correct dosages of dried or fresh leaves. If you follow them (erring on the conservitive) side you should be fine.

Mormon Tea is related, but is not the same herb (i.e. same genus different species). Sorry to stress this again (but it is very important IMHO) the genus and species must be correct both for safety and effect.

If you attempt to get the refined, non-herbal form of Ephedra, the company that sells it to you is likely going to want to you to provide name, address, SSN and various other forms of identification for a DEA database.

The DEA is interested because the refined version of Ephedra is used to my methamphetamine. I think this is somewhat of a deterrent for people who “don’t really need it”.
