Let’s see if you can laugh at this. These idiots are taking this seriously and they are going to wreck your life because of it.

how is it this going to wreck my life? I dont live in britain and how on earth are anys life going to bee wrecked becuase the different state departments are run in a more green way. it problably going to meen that they shift from regular lightsbolbs to a more green variation.

This vid was the first i have heard of the coalition’s 10:10 pledge, and i listen to BBC radio 4 usually 2 hours a day And im studying for a Bsc Landscape Management. this pledge aint worth shit, this sort of thing goes nowhere in britain. 10% is a HUGE ask for most people, it just sounds good for Cameron’s ‘bigger society’ bullshit.

Well, most people when they see people getting blown up when it comes to something political tend to get mad/turned off to the message

And too your second point, you really think that man in his what less then 200 years of industry is really responsible? I mean when you take a look at the number they are trying to reduce in terms of what is out there it is so miniscule it’s laughable. And that’s not even getting into the fact that under more CO2 plants actually get bigger and produce more. And that the earth has had much warmer periods then today.

But that is taking the topic to a place I do not wish this thread to go. Lets just stick with that so far we have seen an enviro nut hold the discovery channel hostage, and now we are seeing clear threats against people who do not buy into it.
I am no scientist john, so I dont know if plants get bigger by co2.
are you a scientist?

but since the co2 have increased in the same time humans started to drive cars, trains, airplanes, overproduce, have wars with cars, airplanes, bombs etc etc. you dont think it is logical to suspect that the global warming have something to do with our species behavior.

but anyway if you are right, or I am right, its not dumb that technology and other aspect of society becomes more eco-friendly.
well technically we only kno it is increasing because we started measuring it, it could have been increasing before that.

Maybe it is just people, maybe we are the problem and should finish ourselves off to save teh world.

OR maybe carbon is the building block of life on our planet, and the carbon footprint is mearly part of the cycle to recycle life. And all these idiots who believe and push global warming should take a thermodynamics class and then try to apply the principles they are tought.

Hell I learned the difference between consumers and producers in elementary school.

Do I need to be a scientist to know that there are CO2 emmiters in greenhouses and that 60% of all dry plant mass is made from CO2?

maybe not my best line of thougt so far, I see the funny.

but my point was that I dont know much about naturscience, so I cant judge if orion or john are right or wrong. btw I have never heard about that co2 makes plants grow faster before.
and a youtube video does not convince me.

but when you talk about common sence: how does eco-friendly policy = fascisme/totalitarianism. I dont see the link. what I see is rightwing hysteria.
I can understand you dilemma so I have consulted a higher authority on plant growth to show you that Co2 can help increase yields.

HIGH TIMES’ 7TH ANNNUAL STASH AWARDS
BEST CO2 GENERATOR

Carbon dioxide gas, absolutely essential for photosynthesis, is quickly depleted in any closed indoor environment. A lack of CO2 can slow or even stop plant growth altogether, yet many growers simply ignore the problem, intimidated by the idea of acquiring and refilling bulky tanks of compressed gas. The new line of CO2 generators from Solatel allows cultivators to use cheaper and easier-to-get propane, commonly used in barbecues and thus available everywhere.
Several features set the Solatel units apart from other generators. The Gas Pro utilizes a fast and efficient electronic spark ignition, and an innovative dual-duct heat-exchange compartment keeps the unit cool during especially hot months. A 20-inch propane gas cord and a 10-inch power cord give the generator greater mobility, allowing for strategic placement of the unit to fit the growing environment. Double your harvests with CO2 gas.

My next point would be that the American founding fathers told us that we should always be vigilant in defense of our freedom. When global warming advocates such as Al Gore or President Obama are openly discussing global governance then we see the EU going full tilt for it we have good reason to be concerned. Global government is a terrible threat to our freedom. When power is increasingly concentrated in the hands of fewer and fewer people will not be in the best interests of humanity.

The EU is a prime examples of how bad these supranational governments can be. The EU is widely acknowledged to be undemocratic and unwanted. Despite those facts it continues not only to exist, but to seize and expand it’s powers. Supranational government is a recipe for corruption and authoritarianism.

Global warming is a ruse. What is being done has nothing to do with being eco-friendly.If it was we wouldn’t have bullshit scams like carbon credits and carbon trading. This is just another name for redistribution of wealth from the first world to the third world with a handful of connected wealthy people cashing in.

Think about this. What sense does it make to penalize energy users in the first world with carbon taxes but then take that money and give it to third world dictators? If carbon emissions in the first world truly were a problem, the thing to do would be to use that money here in the first world to reduce our output.
Whether or not they will achieve that goal is not critical to the point I was trying to make. That video is just this weeks act of stupidity. Britain is being de-industrialized, the economy is being ruined, yet no-one in the government is taking a stand against what is happening. I’ll give an example of just how bad things have become and how badly the people are being betrayed by the global warming agenda.

The closing of the Redcar foundry is a clear example of redistribution of wealth from the first world to the third world. The Redcar foundry was the last large foundry left in Britain. Thanks to the carbon credits trading scam Tata the Indian owners of Corus who in turn owned Redcar received 1.2 Billion pounds for closing the Redcar foundry. Money which was then used to build a new foundry in India.

This has resulted in no reduction of Co2 going into the atmosphere. If Co2 truly is a problem, then the carbon credits scam is rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. The way this affects you is your tax money was used to put all of the workers at Redcar on the dole (which is also going to cost you)and build a new foundry in India for a wealthy Indian corporation.

British politics is dominated by Fabians who do not have your best interests in mind. They have an agenda which they are enacting and it is not good for you. Yet your response is typical British dismissiveness, don’t worry about it, it’s just a big joke, har har har. Ignore these people at your own peril because they have the ability to do severe damage and they are!

Twenty or so years ago when I was in college I never thought that in my lifetime that Britain, the country that gave the world the industrial revolution, would no longer have a steel industry. It is amazing how much things can change in twenty years.

i agree with what you said (first time ever! but im more concerned about doing my dissertation and getting a job next year rather than the world in ten years time
caveman101 wrote:

Thanks! I’m glad I wrote you could relate to. I can appreciate that you have things in your life that are demanding your time. Unfortunately there are too many in Britain who are either too distracted or disinterested to provide oversight of what the politicians there are up to and hold them accountable.

I think that if you live in a democracy you have a duty as a citizen to educate yourself and pay attention to what is going on. When you do get more free time you would do well to study up on the American founding fathers, because they really got a lesson on the British government and were able to develop solutions to what was wrong with it.

Good luck getting a job next year, you are going to need it. Because thanks to the EU you will have to compete against eastern European college grads who are willing to work for less than you are. People who are willing to accept a standard of living in Britain that is far below what you would want after making the effort and sacrifices of getting a higher education.

In ten years time remember this discussion if you have had to say goodbye to your family, your home, everyone you have known your entire life, because you were forced to emigrate after struggling for years to find an entry level job.

I would suggest that before you end up on a boat to some far flung corner of the Commonwealth you should learn the lyrics to this little diddy that was written before you were born because it could be the anthem for your graduating class.

for your first point.

The second point, nothing wrong with being more eco-friendly. But forcing people to be eco-friendly is wrong. People like to live in nice places, thus technology will grow around that. Demand will create a supply.
plants like CO2. They probably don’t like desertification of their habitats due to increased average temperature.

increased average temperature, really still on that. What is the timeframe for the increase, was there a decrease, what are the methods of monitoring, are there multiple or orthoginal methods to verify the methods, are the studies reproducible? so many flaws with the assumptions, especially if you believe the earth is 4.5 billion years old.

I can provide evidence of global cooling, see there is this funny thing called normal cyclical pattern, generally showing as a sinusoidal pattern. The earth gets hotter, the earth gets colder, but over the long term maintains an average constant temperature, just depends on how much time you can cover, and well 0.0000044% of the earths existance doesn’t quite cut it.

Global Cooling in 2008

increased average temperature, really still on that.

Global Cooling in 2008
Oh hush, we all know that’s just anecdotal evidence or something, amiright? lol.

longer, more intense winters, hotter more intense summers. Shorter moderate seasons. I follow this stuff relatively casually. However there is a certain letter signed by the worlds leading scientists that disagrees with you, and I have looked at a bit of the research so I believe the scientists.

But do we need government regulation?

Hell no!

Some nice virus coming out of the jungle in indonesia is probably going to hop a flight to tokyo, to new york, to bejing and this overpopulation mess will be very effectively regulated.

Obviously I hope this doesnt happen but I

CO2 levels follow temperature changes, not the other way around.
CO2 is not causing the “global warming”. It’s levels differ in the atmosphere as the Earth goes through cooling/warming stages.
There are a few possible causes for these temperature fluctuations, activity of the Sun being the most important player (imo).

And I obviously have no clue on anything.

To be a leading expert in something you are put there by like minded colleagues or someone with an agenda, to have so much research speak against you and so little to back to back your position, well if you want to ride that train.

And seriously longer more intense winters and hotter summers, where? Show me the data.

ding ding we have a winner, but be careful ideas like this could land you in prison someday.

Does anyone here think that humans are probably polluting their environment too much?

No! The environment causes pollution. Duh.

We are way better than we were in the 80s.

Wouldnt want to live near an industry park in China though.

I think to be a leading expert in something you should spend years studying it. You should also publish research in peer-reviewed journals with the express purpose of having other knowledgable folks try and pick out and expose flaws. In such ways are careers made in the scientific community

But hey, scientific method hasnt done anything for us in the last 200 years. Nope, totally useless.

Today I did some google searching regarding DUI laws for another thread but I’m not proclaiming myself a lawyer.

Look at the end of the day these scientists do know a lot about the topic. And they can give us insights into the problem. However, the models they use as predictions are extremely basic. They even admit as much.

They are trying to predict what will happen to the climate system in 50-100 years time. At the same time we cannot even predict with high reliability the weather for next week! Will it be rainy or sunny? 18 Degrees or 24 Degrees? We don’t really know. This is because the earth is an extremely complex system.

Secondly climate study is a lot closer to economics than it is to classical science. Simply due to the complex nature of the beast. Just because something happens in a micro-climate study does not mean you can assume it will happen at a macro scale.

Finally, from the peer reviewed material I have read, we would basically have to cut emissions by 20-50% across the board to make a significant difference. Again these are scientists who know plenty about science but little about public policy or areas outside their research niche.

When it comes to public policy, in my opinion, we would be better off assuming that warming was going to happen and then building in safeguards to ensure that if it did we would still thrive. E.g. Netherlands should be pumping money into its dyke system, not into renewable energy.

to me thats a better attitude than ‘scientists be lying an’ shit.’

But I think theres a host of problems other than sea levels rising associated with climate change. And Western/developed countries will probably be fine which is kind of ironic since they’re the ones who have done most of the polluting but will now suffer the least.
