Enough With the Logs

So are you saying your “post” doesn’t “garner any attention” when looking at porn on the interwebs?

That’s ridiculous. That is exactly why we have a FREE blog area on this site.

I agree, making a log thread is dumb. We get it, everyone likes attention, but if you have a personal blog and no one is reading it, maybe you just aren’t that interesting?[/quote]

I disagree. This is a bodybuilding website with the whole purpose of communication and generating discussions, support and constructive criticisms. I have seen log forums on other weightlifting websites. They are successful and convenient because the people who want to read logs (I am one of those sorts of people) can do so, while others who do NOT want to see those threads blocking up space on the main forums can simply forget about other people’s ‘logs’.

The fact is that most simply don’t read other peoples’ profile blogs. I, for one, didn’t even know I had a blog option on my profile until I read this thread.

It can even be argued that private blogs are even more retarded of an idea than log threads. If you have no interest in presenting your workouts to the rest of the world, then why not simply write your training sessions in a small notebook (which you can conveniently take with you to the gym), instead of opening your computer and saving it onto some website.

To each their own, however.

for real stop making all these fucking logs, no one cares. especially when you branch off of someones else log that is successful, i.e doggcrapp or AD or now everyone is trying to make their own physique clinics…except you dont have anyone fucking coaching you numb nuts.

i personally dont read anyone logs or blogs because i dont give a shit how anyone on here lifts, but seriously try to be original at least.

I like my log for the sole reason that people are helping me out. It’s cool to see you T-buddies or whatever you wanna the call the people that you make interwebz inside jokes with’s progresses. I enjoy readinng Kalle’s, Dickbag’s, buckeye’s and others. They motivate me, and give me help when I ask for it. It’s a big help more than anything else.

I think it’s funny that we each has a blog and some of us post in there, but we don’t get a fucking reply in them. Seriously, go to the forums page and scroll to the bottom. I think the problem is that you be that blog poster’s “friend” before you can post a comment… right?

Personally I have a few forums turned off from showing up in my T-Nation because they are mostly logs and little substance. I would like a logs forum just so I can turn THAT off.

I don’t read the “log” threads. I don’t really care about them. But if they are what’s causing T-Nation to be so damn slow, I personally hate everyone that has one.

Okay, so the general concensus is that these logs serve as a substitute for what would otherwise be social interaction and/or a peer support group…

Let me do my share then: I’ll be the guy offering hugs, kisses, and a shoulder to cry on.

Yeah, like you read Playboy for the articles.

I’m afraid my sexual perversion isn’t quenched by something as “soft porn” as Playboy, but… have you seen a Playboy issue lately? All it is is 97% articles.

You’re misinterpreting my words. It’s obviously not those examples I have a problem with. It’s the praise of mediocracy.

Some logs are more about just jotting down daily workout totals. Some actually tackle some questions in regards to training-style and other factors. So, they’re not completely useless…

There are just so damn many of them on there, and so damn few of them actually worth perusing.

15 of the 25 threads on the front page of the Strength forum are logs, and only 3 or 4 of those 15 are logs that I would actually read.

I’m sorry, but I don’t think threads “logging” the progress of beginners is a practical use for the Strength forum. They’re just taking up way too much space.

lmao… seconded.

Having a training log shows that you actually fucking train…

I think certain posters just like to bitch and complain on this site.

Some of the logs (not all) but some are a potential font of information, for instance, check out Cheeta’s she’s in Iceland being trained by “Boris” Haraldsson! & we get first hand reports for free. Who knows what gem of Iclandic strength lore could be gleaned.

I read some of the logs and honestly when at least one of the people I still follow did it through a blog I didn’t check it as often because of sheer forgetfulness. As a lazy creature by nature if it isn’t in front of my face I’m probably not going out searching for it haha.

I think the criteria should be " Do you reeeeeeeally think anyone wants to read your log?" And if the person can answer honestly yes then let them have it.

Hey, my entire musical career is based on mediocracy!

But seriously, some people just may need some encouragement to break through a rough patch, others just want to be stroked. But you can’t censor everybody on account of the attention whores. There are people who are genuine, and come here to learn and improve themselves.

Good point. I’m gonna continue mine in blog form.

How does starting a log prove anything beyond one’s ability to type?

You either train or you don’t - who are you trying to impress?

I think it is pretty easy to tell if someone is lying by what they do in their training log, I am not trying to impress anyone.

By keeping a log in the westside/pling thread I learned TONS from more experienced lifters who could offer advice on what I could do to improve/what I am doing wrong.

I have no doubt I would not make the same type of progress if I didn’t log my training.

Its like virtual training partners, some of us don’t have anyone to train with and do this alone so who are you going to ask for advice? How are you going to see break downs in your form if you don’t record it?

I have a log because it helps me track where I’ve been and where I want to go. The title has the word “log” in it, so if you are not interested in logs, it’s easy to just not read it. Because I’m pretty much a newbie at heavy weight, the other logs I check in with offer great insight and information. When someone checks in on me and answers questions, I greatly appreciate it.
Since I have no one in my life even remotely interested in OL or weight training, it’s nice to communicate with like minds. I wasn’t aware of the blog function, however, since I visit the Powerful Women forum daily, it’s just as easy to post there. The visibility helps too, the other women with experience, insight and similar goals may not visit a blog since they all post in that forum.
Anyways, the log has helped me out a lot, if it pisses anyone off, I really don’t care.

This coming from someone who currently has a log in which he goes from “obese” to “morbidly obese.”

Grain of salt.
