Dutch pedophiles are launching a political party to push for a cut in the legal age for sexual relations to 12 from 16 and the legalisation of child pornography and sex with animals, sparking widespread outrage.
The Charity, Freedom and Diversity (NVD) party said on its web site it would be officially registered today, proclaiming: “We are going to shake The Hague awake!”
The party said it wanted to cut the legal age for sexual relations to 12 and eventually scrap the limit altogether.
“A ban just makes children curious,” Ad van den Berg, one of the party’s founders, told the Algemeen Dagblad newspaper.
“We want to make pedophilia the subject of discussion,” he said, adding the subject had been a taboo since the 1996 Marc Dutroux child abuse scandal in neighbouring Belgium.
“We want to get into parliament so we have a voice. Other politicians only talk about us in a negative sense, as if we were criminals,” Van den Berg told Reuters.
The Netherlands, which already has liberal policies on soft drugs, prostitution and gay marriage, was shocked by the plan.
An opinion poll published today showed that 82 per cent wanted the government to do something to stop the new party, while 67 per cent said promoting pedophilia should be illegal."
I’d suggest public burial alive for every member of the party.
Sexual relationship are complex enough that if someone is able to deal with them at 12, then he should probably be allowed to vote, drive, drink, and purchase firearms at 12.
Most people don’t think a 12 year old is mature enough to handle all those other things. And a mature, adult sexual relationship is easily the most complex of the list, with consequences and repercussions similar to the others.
I can see an age between 16 to 21 being agreed upon, but I doubt most people would like to see a 12 or even 15 year old drive down to Wal-Mart to buy a gun, and grab some booze and smokes on the way back to his 15 year-old girlfriend.
Just because the body is ready for sex at 9, doesn’t mean the person is.
Emotional readiness for sex is a concept of society and not necessarily a function of biology. Biology doesn’t care that a thriteen year-old girl isn’t “emotionally” ready for children. This is probabably why early man was very communal.
That said, making it easier for “sick” individuals to act “violently” toward those not “emotionally” ready for a sexual encounter is not going to work. As for opening a dialog for pedophiles, I can think of saner ways to do so.

According to the poll, approx. 18% didn’t want the government interfering with the party and 33% didn’t think promoting pedophilia should be illegal. Anyone find anything seriously wrong with this picture?

That’s why we have concept like “age of consent.” We understand that biology can be quite precocious compared to intellectual maturity.
I agree with you though, that in communal society, young pregnancies are probably easier to deal with, as the young mother can get help from the other tribe/village/community mothers.
In our modern society, having a kid very young can be an enormous burden.

A democracy entails that unpopular and even offensive ideas will be espoused by some.
Let it go to the vote. They’ll probably end up with something like 5% of the final tally.
It’s a similar situation with gay marriage. you can debate it nearly forever (as Zeb and forlife tried to prove) and never reach an agreement.
Let the people vote on it, and abide by their decision.

I find it very strange that pedophilia would even be a political issue. Pedophilia is a perversion that shouldn’t be merely decided by a vote. Just because the majority espouses a certain view doesn’t mean it’s the right choice (slavery immediately comes to mind). Oh well, the pedophiles were probably born that way, therefore we should all just be more “tolerant”. Remember, in a society where anything goes, eventually everything does.

My idea is that putting those idea to a popular vote will see them garnering close to zero support. Hopefully that sends a clear enough message to paedophiles that their ideas are not different, but symptoms of a mental sickness.
