Does anyone else here feel like their knees are going to explode by doing drop movements (minimal shrug, no jump)? I wonder if this is a technique issue or just the nature of the lift.

Um, no. drop ( hang) clean.
If I do them too often yes, otherwise no.
I believe this one of the reasons why some programs alternate days with full lifts with days doing the power versions, i.e. snatches vs power snatches.
Preseason volume work seems to help to alleviate knee pain by the way.
