Drinking a Coke Postworkout

Note to self: Buy pop tarts.

hfcs is metabolized by the liver, mostly into triglycerides if I’m not mistaken. So by drinking coke after lifting you are basically just putting undo stress on your liver and are not really replenishing lost muscle glycogen. The coke will cause an insulin spike though, not nearly as great as monosaccarides though. It’s not really a huge deal though. Atleast your eating after lifting.

Kick him in the nuts with steel toed boots!

This has got to be one of the worst pieces of nutrional advice I ve ever heard.

First off High Fructose Corn Syrup as late night lifter pointed out is stored in the liver and converted to fat. So when your sluggish the next day or week and wondering where your glycogen stores went thats what happened to them.

More importanly, carbonation is a killer to recovery. Anything carbonated will mess up your muscles recovery time by flooding the body with CO2 it also lowers your VO2 max dramatically.

Drinking a soda after a workout out is at least as bad as drinking a beer after a workout, maybe worse.
