I’m no doc, but I think the key phrase here is “near overtrained”. Are your muscles sore immediately post workout? For me, soreness doesn’t come until about 24 hours after a serious kick-the-gym’s-ass kinda workout.
Not to mention that sore muscles are not necessarily overtrained muscles. I know that the few times I have come close to overtraining my muscles “felt” just fine, I was just unable to sleep, eat, or think.
