“I WAS NEVER A CONFORMIST” | Dorian Yates | Real Bodybuilding Podcast Ep 100
Fouad’s got a great podcast. I’m looking forward to listening to this one.
Just realized, thanks to Instagram, that today was Yates‘ birthday. The guy walked away from the sport, does his bike riding and his yoga, and is healthier physically and mentally because of it. Damn inspiring if you ask me.
I started doing the pullover machine because of him. He said that he thought the pullover machine was the best back mass builder with the least risk of injury. I did manage to get injured on it, but now that I know what not to do I’m good.
Just listened to this podcast. He is an interesting guy and definitely times competing and retiring correctly.
Didn’t know that he never really placed less than 2nd in any contest.
no athlete of any type ever wants to go out on an injury. Yates managed to hang on for that last win, but every time he talks about his retirement, he knew when it was over. Human body can only take so much, especially what guys at the top of the sport subject themselves to.
He did place lower than 2nd in 1985 at the World Games when he was 7th in the Heavyweight Class (won by Berry De Mey)
