Not much to disagree with there.
I thought Brandon’s response was excellent and he hints at an important point. Beating the guys on stage on competition night is really the only thing that matters to get the paycheck. In a subjective sport like bodybuilding, we can always argue what generation was “best” but we know it changes throughout the years.
Regradless of the differences in physique, Brandon appears to be a stand-up guy who can be an excellent standard bearer for the sport (especially since last year’s winner got himself into a bit of a quagmire).
“Let him have what he accomplished in his day and if my win is able to bring him relevance in present day through a comparison of himself to me then so be it.”
Beautifully classy burn.
At some point there has to be a middle ground. The pursuit of size the past 10-15 years (which Dorian did usher in) has come at a cost of less conditioning. Those who have been able to bring both enormous size & spot on conditioning play a super risky game, daring even for those who dare tread in these circles.
Simply too much to expect.
Wow, way better conditioning back then!
SIX weeks out!
you can’t argue that Dorian 100% held himself to that standard. He’s not just running his mouth the way some ex-competitors or authors who competed once do in attempt to sound better than they actually were.
Dorian looks and sounds like a wise Anglo Saxon chieftain. He speaks with such confidence and authority, because in his career he walked the walk.
I hadn’t watched dorians commentary til now but he was respectful. Thing is what he’s saying is something that you can compare even though these guys competed decades apart. Not like football or another sport comparing athletes. You can actually compare muscle separation. Even someone like myself that doesn’t have the eye stu does can still tell a huge difference in side by side comparison.
Some good pics for analysis in this video
Hi Stu, is there any tutorial videos you recommend that explain what it means when people say stuff like a certain Bodybuilder has great lines, muscle bellies etc.? I’d like to learn more about symmetry in bodybuilding and the likes.
Can you imagine if someone the size of Ramy or Roelly dropped an extra 10 or 15 lbs and just came in ultra-ripped? If they could do this constantly you might see another Haney/Dorian/Ronnie-like reign.
I agree but the question is why don’t they !? Surely they know it too, so what is stopping them?
Maybe they feel they need to be the biggest, fullest guy on stage? But that’s not what is going to dominate when you have guys coming in way better condition.
