Comments from others mostly, though making steps towards that goal, especially when it’s a physical goal (lifting x lbs or gaining x lbs), can help fuel motivation.

Do you set goals to increase self motivation in completing a specific task?

2 Rarely: This question seems a little weird. I never set a goal with the specific purpose of increasing motivation. However, once I’ve set myself a goal I’m extremely motivated to achieve said goal.

If you fail to achieve a goal does it increase or decrease your motivation?

3 Increase and I get pissed (depending on the significance of the goal)

4 All the time

From that list I guess visulization of goal. In reality it’s much more complicated than that. I’ll do lots of thing to generate motivation to achieve a goal. I like motivational songs:

Often I will think about my goal, visualize my satisfaction at achieving that goal, and how that will improve my life as a whole. On a more mundane day to day basis I often berate myself into working harder. If i’m bulking I’ll spend a while telling myself I’m a skinny pussy and need to man up. Maybe look at a picture of an Olympic marathoner.

I find visualization to be very motivating when attempting to achieve my goals.

I’s assuming this is for Sport/Exercise Psych? “Fun” class… glad to help.

Wow thank you so much everyone! Yes, this is a normal research paper. Large percentage is just study review etc. We need data to compare to the study findings. And yes this is apart of a sport/psyc class.

Let Mickey explain it, from 0:45-0:50.

Visualizing definitely helps, but mostly just having a number to go for instead of heading blankly ahead with only the vague notion of “lift more.” I make a lot of short-term goals so there is always something to strive for and a feeling of accomplishment when I attain it.
