Dodgin’ Dadbods: Fortitude Training

I don’t think I’ve ever had a quad cramp on me. Hami’s All the time but never a quad. Bet that sucked

They’re the worst kind of cramp. I had them the first time in boot camp. Fortunately I was on the way to the bathroom so there were no drill instructors watching me collapse - they’d have ripped me apart and made me do squats til I cried. Just do 10 sets of heavy, high rep leg extensions before a heavy compound quad exercise, then hammer them some more, and a few hours later start flexing your quads as hard as you can for as long as you can, and I guarantee you’ll get them cramping up.

It’s been a while since that’s happened to me but I had an episode in high school where both quads and hamstrings cramped simultaneously. It was terrible.

I was at a volleyball game and my hams went first. I quickly straightened my legs and then the quads seized. I just had to ride it out.

It hit me again when I walked through the door to my house. I collapsed in an awkward heap and my mom said “What’s wrong with you?” but not in a caring tone

Now that, I’ve never had. That sounds horrible. Have you ever had a tongue/throat cramp from yawning? I get them from time to time, and they start instantly, and there’s no way to interrupt a yawn.

I get the neck cramp but not the tongue part. It kind of seizes up where I think my carotid artery goes.

I gotta admit, I was worried where that was going when I read:

The word yawning was on the next line!

I get the neck/throat cramp but it’s always when I’m process of taking a bite out of a tall burger or sandwich. I open up real big and then bam. Then you look retarded staring straight up for no apparent reason trying to get it to release

I’m dating myself here but I used to do semi pro inline skating on half pipes, vert ramps, and the such. Was entered in a highest back flip competition. Basically they had markers every foot above the coping of the ramp. Coping was at 15 ft. The goal was to leave the ramp forward, do the highest backflip you could and then enter the ramp backwards. I was in the lead at about 5.5 feet above coping. The next attempt my hamstring seized mid flip and my skate pretty much just stuck to my butt. Needless to say that was a terrible wipeout from 20ft in the air!

YES. YES YES YES.

No one ever understands what these are, or how inconvenient they are:

Yep.

Never tongue/throat cramp, but sometimes I’ll get a tmj lock-up, and the jaw muscle will cramp, which is pretty indescribable when the jaw won’t hinge back shut.

Left the gym, went in to work. I was the only one in the plant, did about 5 hours of tough, dirty work, closed it down, and went home. There was a half hour of daylight left so I got in another little bike ride around our complex with the 3 year old. He beasted the big hill this time, no fear, just a bad habit of casually looking around while riding and not paying attention to where he’s steering.

Well, this is a head cold - just some sniffles, sore throat, and general tiredness. Nothing like the sicknesses I read about in your log not long ago. Plus, I’m in my last year of my 20s, I just plain recover faster than your old ass does. I also lift less weight though, haha.

This made me laugh. Well done young Jedi.

Smart to back off and progress the weight.

Yeah, it’s tough to not go for the heavier weight, but as long as I’m getting more reps and increasing the weight on the DBs for the superset, I’m getting stronger. Each rep is like a 4 second eccentric with a 1 second pause below my knees.
