Diet Plan - Thoughts?

I am constructing a diet, and this is what I have come up with so far.

Meal 1 - Post AM workout
8 oz. Whey Protein Shake, mixed with strawberries, yogurt, and ice cubes.

Meal 2 - 1 cup grapes

Meal 3 - 6 oz. can tuna, 2 slices of wheat bread, 2 pieces lettuce, 2 slices of tomato, 1 apple.

Meal 4 - Metabolic Drive Protein-Energy Bar

Meal 5 - 6 oz. chicken breast, 1 cup broccoli

Meal 6 - 1 cup cottage cheese, 1 cup strawberries.

Is this a good start for trying to lose weight? I will be doing the TBT workout, with booster shots on off days. Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Man, that blows. Where are the calories? You’re hardly eating anything. I know you’re trying to lose fat, but you still have to eat.

Grapes don’t count as a meal. A bar is not a meal. An 8oz. shake is not a meal. You only have two “meals” that actually resemble meals.

And you’re hardly getting any fats at all.

Looks more like a starvation plan than a “Diet Plan”…

How much do you weigh now? Male/Female? If you are a man that is way too little food.

Whethere you are male or female, what’s up with 1 cup of broccoli and grapes??? Broccoli is basically free food and filling, so eat as much as you want, when you want. Apples, grapes, and strawberries are all awesome dieting fruits, but don’t limit the amount you can eat at first.

When you are hungry you should be able to grab some of these “free” fruits. Even when I was only interested in losing weight I’d eat at least a pound of broccoli or spinich and 4-5 apples a day. When I found fresh grapes or strawberries I’d eat them till I couldn’t eat anymore.

If you want to be successful with your Diet Plan you have to make it reasonable. If you put yourself into starvation mode you will find it very hard to stick with your plan.

Meal two has no protein source and why are you working out on an empty stomach? I thought that was a big no-no.

I’d personally replace some of those fruit sources with complex carbs (sweet potato/brown rice etc.) or with some healthy fats and veggies. I don’t know about you, but I have to keep my carbs really quite low and take most of my energy in the form of fats and protein in order to loose weight.

Also increase the variety in veggies - get some beans and peas in there (cheap and easy to prepare), peppers, carrots etc. I also see next to zero healthy fat sources. Get some nuts, seed, fish oil caps and flax seeds and find somewhere to squeeze them in.

Are you getting enough protein in for your mass as well? Are you close enough to maintainence that you wont push your body into starvation, cock-up your metabolism and loose muscle mass?

What are booster shots?

Hey guys,

Thanks for the advice I greatly appreciate it. OneEye - always looking out for me, always giving great advice. Thanks man.

I weigh 300 pounds, and trying to get down to 225. I am not a bodybuilder or powerlifter, so there is no certain day I have to be lean by. Just keep working and dieting hard.

Thanks again guys.

Hi,

Firstly I’d like to reiterate what OneEye said : at your weight, your caloric intake is too low. No need to flog a dead horse though, so on to my next point. If it were me, I wouldn’t be having a can of tuna everyday. There is conflicting evidence with it : some studies say that mercury content continues to build as you keep eating more, others say that the liver reaches saturation after a certain point, and any further tuna will have no more cumulative ill-effect. Either way, you’re getting more mercury into your system, which is something I personally would avoid. Try turkey instead.

Good luck,

-Cloth

PS Let’s not transform this into a “how I’ve eaten tuna for 35 years and am still healthier than you will ever be” thread. If you want one of them, try bodybuilding.com

Some good advice so far.

Furthermore: Do I understand this correctly and you intend on performing your TBT workouts in the morning in a fasted state?

Cloth,

Great advice, I appreciate it.

Do you suggest staying away from tuna all together, or just not eating it everyday? If tuna is still recommended, how many times per week shall I eat it? And for turkey, do you suggest turkey breast (lunch meat) or cooked turkey?

I won’t start a thread about eating tuna, I promise.

Thanks again.

Michael,

Yes, that is correct, I plan on working out first thing in the morning in a fasted state. Do you suggest another method? I would appreciate your advice.

You don’t want to do that. Eat something first. I have two scoops of protein powder, one banana, one cup of vanilla lowfat yogurt, 1 1/2 cups of frozen blueberries, and 1 cup of milk. Blend it up, it’s delicious, quick, easy, and nutritious. Always eat before you work out.
