You’ve mentioned that adrenaline desensitization can hinder performance and progress. Now this has happened to me, and tends to occur with stress and also if I use more caffeine, but I also benefit from changing exercises from time to time which can increase activation because it is novel and interesting and prevents boredom. So is there a way to tell if I am adrenaline desensitized from pushing too hard, or if I am neurologically bored, and aren’t these two things actually quite different?

You get a boost from changing things around because the novelty increases neurological activation, most likely because of a dopamine release (which is why it can still get you amped up even when your beta-adrenergic receptors are desensitized. So it can mask the problem for a short while. But the problem is still there.
That’s why getting excited about a new program can be detrimental: it can mask the symptoms of fatigue and prevent you from using strategies to solve the issue.
