Depression/Anxiety

docs over there DO prescribe it at 4x the rate of Prozac and there is evidence indicating it is of comparable efficacy to low-dose tricyclic antidepressant medications, …
That wouldn’t surprise me, given that there is little scientific evidence that conventional antidepressants (SSRIs, etc.) do anything for depression.

Before taking large doses of vitamin D, how about getting tested first?

What about pornaddiction? Ejaculating over 3x a week can mess with brain hormone balances, some will feel emotional and depressed…
But if you are not an avid ‘doer’ either you should go talk with someone and possible test your hormones. Wish you the best

If you don’t mind my asking: did you find anything that DID end up working for you?
I ended up on a course of fluoxetine before changing to sertraline (or it may have been the other way round, I forget - been off them for a year now).
Very unpleasant side effect - short-term memory and libido are both still in a pretty bad state; I think it may be dopamine related, but I’ll wait until I’m in a decent physical condition (i.e. not fat) before I start getting any tests.

I’m not taking antidepressants, they don’t work. Every person I’ve ever know, they didn’t help any, most just complained of some type of side effect.

I do believe in making the body healthier. Exercising, eating healthy, doing positive things help to an extent. Just trying to see if there are things I’m not trying.

Alkalizing your body with more fruits and vegetables changes your mood for the better. Supplementing apple cider vinegar and even drinking diluted lemon juice have the same effect. It’s worked wonders for me.

Drinking the juice of a lemon mixed with room temp water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach has been hailed as a remedy for a lot of ailments. Most noteworthy is its ability to detoxify the body.

What about music? Maybe this is a bit farfetched, but music alters moods, too.

Yeah good point, stay away from depressing music and films. regularily watching comedy shows can help a bit also

Are you referring to me, and the 5htp?. Its a natural occurring amino acid and you already are ingesting it. You may just need more that your diet allows for.

Dietary sources

Though 5-HTP is found in food only in insignificant quantities, it is a chemical involved intermediately in the metabolism of tryptophan, an amino acid found in turkey, milk, potatoes, pumpkin, and various greens.[14] See also the section Dietary sources of the article on L-tryptophan.

The study citing possible heart problems were from high dose straight serotonin injection in rats. You are not ingesting serotonin, you are simple maximizing your genetic potential to natural synthesize it. This is quite different than an SSRI or such.
Try it for a week. You wont die

There isn’t enough known about it.

I’ve read it might cause heart valve trouble. I’d rather deal with what I’ve got than have my heart mess up.

I was actually looking at a bottle of it the other day, almost bought it.

I found this site good hope it helps Depression | 2KnowMySelf

No matter how hard people on this site continue to bash western medicine there is significant evidence that SSRIs and SNRIs do work for some people. Anecdotal claims about this drug class are hard to judge secondary to the extended compliance period required for maximal efficacy (many, many patients take an SSRI for 2 weeks, say “this doesn’t do anything” and discontinue). As far as subjective side effects, it would be hard to find any treatment group with more confounders than patients with clinical depression. Not saying this drug class is a panacea by any means, but these details need to be mentioned.

That being said, I find that a 900 mg dose of Bacopa works very, very well for anxiolysis. I use it multiple times on most days

I think part of the issue is that people expect SSRIs to CURE depression or anxiety, rather than realising that the SSRI is only there as a crutch.

5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan) is a chemical by-product of the protein building block L-tryptophan. It is also produced commercially from the seeds of an African plant (Griffonia simplicifolia).

Don?t use 5-HTP until more is known. 5-HTP might be UNSAFE. Some people who have taken it have come down with eosinophilia-myalgia syndrome (EMS), a serious condition involving extreme muscle tenderness (myalgia) and blood abnormalities (eosinophilia). Some people think the EMS might be caused by an accidental ingredient (contaminant) in some 5-HTP products. But there is not enough scientific evidence to know if EMS is caused by 5-HTP, a contaminant, or some other factor. Until more is known, avoid taking 5-HTP.

Federal government, I’m sure they have your best interests in mind.

Who wrote the text on that page? what are they qualifications, position? biases?

Try reading the actual studies cited. Do you have any scientific literacy? Learn to form your own conclusions from the data, not from a biased subjective opinion that doesn’t specifically cite parts of a study.

“Relatively few adverse effects are associated with its use in the treatment of depressed patients.”

That was from 1987? Seriously have people been dropping dead from this? NO. You seem a lot more concerned with being paranoid, than a solution. I’m sure Pfizer has some nice overpriced dangerous pharmaceuticals that will permanently alter your brain chemistry and kill your dick.

I got a secret for you, no one cares about you except for yourself. You’ve been given lots of advice from a lot of people. Try being proactive.

Honestly though, I believe the people around you influence you the most.
Maybe you could join a powerlifting circle if your into that stuff or something where you can share your interests with guys alike.

5-htp is legit, 50mg a day also go see a therapist (seriously)

This. Best advice.
