Defining

I’ve read alot about being relatively strong, from the likes of coach Joe D and such, being important for speed but my question is how would anyone define being relatively strong?

Cheers,

I am no expert but my understanding is that relative strength is how strong one is in relation to their size and weight. Olympic lifters have very high relative strength (they can lift far more than their bodyweight over their head). An untrained person of the same size and weight would have far less relative strength. Or if you took a guy of medium size who could do pullups with 100 pounds around the waist and a much bigger guy who could only do pullups with 50 pounds, the first guy would have greater relative strength while the huge guy would likely have greater absolute strength(because he lifted more total weight( but not in relation to his size) Hope this makes sense, I am sure someone else can explain it better.
