Decreasing Lifting Density

I know a lot of people only dead lift every other week, but I’m wondering if I should do that for all my heaviest lifts. As I approach my fiftieth birthday, I’m finding that my heaviest lifts are declining if I do them every week, but if life means I miss a workout the strength bumps back up the week after.

So I’m wondering if anyone here does their heavy main exercises one week and their assistance exercises the next?

In case you want more details my bench, squat, dead lift, and loaded carries are all over 300 lbs and I’ve been cutting back on carbs (but not protein) to control my A1C levels.

How about lifting heavy on your main lifts one week, then do a higher rep/lower intensity day of the same lift the next week? A form of periodization, I guess.
