Deciding to Bulk or Cut

#1

Well, actually, I am leaning towards a lean bulk. I'm 23, ~185, 5'11". I believe that I'm around 14-15%bf. Most of that fat seems to be concentrated in my abdomen region, and that has where it's been for the last couple of years. I'm working out 4-5 days a week and do a small amount of cardio 1-2x a week, sometimes just a short walk after my workout, and I bike 1 mile to and from the gym.

What I am not sure of is if I need to cut and lose weight in order to lose the excess fat in that region, or do a clean bulk. I would rate my nutrition as a B...I'm getting about 1g of protein per/lb of bw, I'm working on increasing that. I keep carbs below, though close to 100g. Fat is around 80-90g. My protein is basically the same each day...eggs, chichen, meat, and whey protein isolate pwo. Based off of this info my inclination is that I need to eat more. I am just not confident enough in my own knowledge and thus need some verification and input.

Thanks for any help, and if I need to provide some more details please let me know.

I’ve been doing mostly total body workouts as of late.

db bench press - 3x8
swimmers - 3x12
pull ups or chinups - 3x7
dips - 3x12
db incline curls - 3x10
squats - 3x8
weighted lunges - 2x25

i typically do 20 crunches between each set.

10 am breakfast: 3 whole eggs, 1 slice whole wheat toast, 1tbsp peanut butter

handful of peanuts 30 min before workout
1pm workout

pwo: isopure mass (~50carbs, 35g protein)
30 mins after whey: 8oz chicken breast, 1 low carb mission tortilla, 1 slice american cheese, salsa (usually around 2:45 or 3)

6 pm dinner: 8 oz ground meat

10 pm: 25g whey, 1tbsp peanut butter

I usually have a glass or 2 of red wine each night

I’m just starting fish oil…10-15g a day.
usually throw around 2tbsp olive oil in there somewhere as well

btw…i said i work out 3-4x a week. I go in between total body days and just do some light things. I’ll do pushups, a few pullups and dips, hit on the boxing bag, crunches, and do some light cardio.

if you’re @ 14-15% bf, you need to cut. simple as that. I don’t think you’ll find a single author on this website that would advocate bulking if you’re already @ 15%bf. There’s plenty of articles around here about why you should ALWAYS cut first to the 10% range before even considering bulking.

He’s 5’11 @ 185lb and ~14%bf. That isn’t that bad at all. I disagree, I think with your stats a clean bulk is just fine; especially since you’re talking about doing a clean bulk.

If you said that your bulk was gonna consist of junk food, then I’d agree, get ur bf% lower then start bulking on junk. But since you’re not, you’ll put on good muscle and a little fat, but I’m sure you already knew that.

Worthless without pictures, and this shoulb be the type of thing you decide, and depends in your goal. If you want to be the stud and look good id say cut and then read truth about bulking by CT. If you only want to be big hen you should just bulk up. You are not at very good state right now, long way to go.
