Deads

I’m getting mixed adviced about how to perform deadlifts, particulary foot position ( shoulder width or wider). Can someone help me out with this or point me in the direction of a website that has video of a proper deadlift.

It depends on the type of deadlift you want to perform. You’re either going to take a shoulder width stance for a conventional deadlift, or a much wider stance for a sumo style deadlift (hence the name sumo). A regular ol’ deadlift is performed with the feet shoulder width apart.

The style depends upon your goal, if you are interested in powerlifting or weight movement as principle focus read the article in issue 194 The Dead Zone or go to elitesytems.com, otherwise I suggest issue 39 question of power article in which Ian King goes thru his style which is more muscle focussed in detail.
