Deadlifts and Hamstrings

hey guys, im back at doing deadlifts after a very long hiatus due to back problems. i started off with a very low weight, just 2 plates to work on my form. had a bunch of fellow lifters watch my form, they told me what i was doing wrong, and worked on it until they said i had it down. now their advice could be wrong, but i watched myself in the mirror, which i wouldnt advise as i pulled a muscle on my neck/back lol… and it looked good, plus i compared what they said to textbook advice on here.

my entire back was really sore the next couple days, but my hamstrings werent too bad. i figured ok, i know my back is weak so thats fine. yesterday, i was pulling 275 at 5x5 without much strain and felt as though my form was still good… ass down, chest up and out, looking up at the ceiling. today my back/traps is sore as hell, not so much in my hamstrings.

does this mean i am not doing them correctly? could me doing hang cleans and front squats have my hams so they wont get too sore? i will make a video tomorrow… maybe i should have waited to post this haha

Different people get sore (or don’t) in different places.

I’m a tall guy (6-1) and my hamstrings never get sore after doing any deadlifts. That’s just due to the way that I pull.

If your not hurting yourself and you think your form is correct, don’t worry so much about “why am I not sore” because sorness doesn’t equate to strength/hypertrophy gains.

Take it easy with DLs since you have a back injury…it took me 3.5mo to go from the bar to 4 plates after I “came back”.

Good luck!

good deal, thanks alot man! yeah i guess no matter how many times i read soreness doesnt mean good, i still have that mentality that it does!

like i said ill put up a video today or tomrrow and let you guys judge from there

if you have your hips down, thats going to take away from much of the stretch in the hamstrings, which is probably why you arent feeling it as much (like the opposite reasoning to doing a romanian deadlift, with the hips back and legs almost extended, putting most strain on hamstrings)

Agreed. IMO you can have your hips “too low”, but B rock is right too about some people get sore in different places.

Yea im the same when ever deadlift I get sore in the low back especially! and the rest of my upper back and traps! but hamstrings ehhh I mean the next day I can tell theyve been worked but its not like im like “damn I cant even stand right because their so sore.”
I think it comes from running track and doing hill sprints and bounding etc is why their strong I dunno w/e
Just keep doing them!
