Deadlifting 425, But Bench 185

Thanks for all the replies everyone.

Yes I do have rather long arms.

And after reading all those replies, I noticed that I have to change my routine. So what would you guys recommend?

This program looks pretty good, check it out:

Big Bad Bench - Dave Tate

Round it out with 2 more leg & back sessions, and you’ll be good to go!

Hell, you could even keep a log on here so that people could give you tips as you go along, and it would also force you to keep a log, which are two things that would probably really help.

To the OP, did you know that Andy Bolton can only bench 671 compared to his 1003 deadlift and 1213 squat (all suited)? I don’t think your imbalance is a problem.

Andy Bolton is probably the only person on the planet that can legitimately say that his “671lb” bench is holding him back. [/quote]

Yeah. He could total 3000 if his bench reached the 800s.

Today, instead of studying I hit the gym for two hours.

Bodyweight at start : 208,5 pounds.

I’ve worked my arms more than anything.

Here’s what I’ve done today (excluding warm-ups) :

Dips : BW + 25lbs 4, 4, 3, 3, 3
Seated close-grip cable row : 180lbs x 6 x 3 and 210lbs x 2 x 1 for fun
Seated overhead dumbbell press 60lbs x 6 x 5
Bent over BB rows supinated grip : 185lbs x 6 x 3
Front plate raises 45lbs x 6 x 5
DB preacher curls (hammer grip) 35lbs x 5 x 2 (each hand)

A workout that is totally out of my routine, but anything is a good reason to get away from studying :stuck_out_tongue:

He could total 3,100 if it was 900. Or if his squat was 1,300+. sp what??

Last time I checked he still had the highest squat, deadlift and total EVER. He’s the kind right now. The only thing his bench is “holding him back” from is putting up a milestone total. It’s not stopping him from winning everything.

What the hell is wrong with that? My dead is almost 3x as much as my bench. I don’t understand why it should be any other way, your shoulders, pecs and triceps are so small compared to your thighs and back muscles…

Your deadlift is almost 3 times as much as your bench?

That’s ridiculous. One of the many things that’s wrong with that is a complete lack of balance in your lifts.

I have the same problem even though I have short arms. My raw DL is about 2x my raw bench, and it seems to STAY that way no matter what. If my DL goes up 50 lbs, my bench goes up 25 lbs.

Once I put on a shirt and a suit, my bench is 70% of my DL.
