Deadlift Roll?

I have noticed on some of the videos posted on here recently that the lifters "roll" the bar towards themselves before beginning the lift. I have never tried this, does anyone else use this method. I am guessing it helps with momentum and gets you on your heels and pulling back, any comments? Also, is this valid in competition? Thanks for the help...

Benni did it on his 970 pull, though the bar has to be momentarily motionless as I recall.

The main way it helps is by helping to potentiate the stretch reflex and get in more air prior to the pull.
