After reading “Deadlift Diagnosis” I have a question. When doing sumo style deads, where do you grip the bar? I’ve always gripped the bar with my hands close together…about thumbs length apart. In a picture shown in the article, the lifter is gripping the bar with a wide grip.
It’s going to be a very individual thing. Patricia (featured in the article) just prefers the wider grip; truthfully, she’s normally a conventional puller, but used the other grip just to demonstrate that for an old article of mine. You’ll find that most sumo pullers use a much narrower grip.
