Deadlift Grip Strength

I must have the worst genetics for grip strength. My hands are naturally small and my grip strength sucks. At about 275 pounds I have to start using gloves OR straps (but not both). My body is capable of lifting up to 340 pounds but my grip can’t. Am I cursed to use grip assistance devices forever? I feel ashamed that I need straps or gloves for a weight below 300 pounds.

Andy Bolton’s advice: Grip Training for the Deadlift

( CT has recommended this to people before )

I really feel your pain as I’m in the same situation. When I competed in olympic lifting my best snatch was 125kg but I could do 142.5kg with straps…

I lifted with straps for the past 5 or so years and now that I’m getting back into training on the olympic lifts again I have to work on my grip strength. I try to do a little bit of it everyday at the end of my workout. Thick bar lifting or holding, pinch grip, Ironmind gripper, etc.
