Day of Photoshoot

Hi guys - a friend of mine is gonna take some pics 2 moro. Ive depleted then carbed up a bit and played about with my salt and water so at the minute im pretty chuffed with my condition so far

just thinking what you guys recommend to take on the day of the photos / your competitions to bring out veins , fullness etc

was planning on wine the night before, some sweet potatoes and chicken on the day and some choc / marshmallows just before the actual photos at 3pm

any other suggestions - any definite no no’s

heres my before shot

Hi

I can’t really give you any tips on pre-photoshoot diet other than the usual stuff (avoid any and all food containing sodium ~36hours before the shoot, eat some complex carbs non stuffing low fat low protein low fiber, drink a little bit of alcohol the evening before the shoot as it will help to drain water, try to get some potassium/magnesium with your pre shoot morning breakfast to avoid cramps),

but i wanted to say that i really enjoy reading your blog, both funny and entertaining but also very informative. Keep up the good work !

gl & hf with your shoot

thanks mate - appreciate it !!

they were sold out - turns out u had been in for breakfast !

If you still have time a Burger King meal/any type of high fat & sodium fast food about an hour before the shoot does the trick for vascularity and fullness.

Also a serving of Xplode can help.

cheers man - sounds good

dont have any xplode though.

had planned to call to gym at 2 odds , pump upper body (im sending pics off for a mens health competition , sligthly metrosexual i know but good fo the resume)

then head straight to photographer with a good pump

ok , thanks again - thinking KFC as its close to gym , then gym for quick pump then photos - dogs balls

EDIT: Just noticed I’m a day late. Anyway since you’re in shape now for photos (and I guess you plan on doing them again), I’d say to try the niacin idea I listed to see your reaction for next time. If done right, it can work well.

It’s been years since I competed in bodybuilding but I recall the following:

  1. a low dose of potassium each hour or two starting the evening prior.

  2. minimal water intake, but then small sips occasionally (sorry can’t remember the amount or frequency).

  3. The hour prior, start with chocolate (a couple candy bars should be enough)

  4. Half an hour prior take some niacin (you can crush it up for faster absorption, but be careful the headache from taking to much is severe.) This will help take pop out the veins and give your skin a red glow. Ideally you would have experimented a week prior, so I’m not sure if you want to try this.

Note- I don’t think there is any medical issue and the headache passes but, it can be knee buckling.

  1. Vodka. A shot or two 15-20 minutes prior will help bring the veins out.

As far as pumping up, you likely know your own body but most guys should avoid pumping up their triceps and legs. Blood in these areas typically smooths the appearance. For me, I’d pump up my biceps, shoulders, chest (some) and back.

Good luck and hopefully some of this is useful.

cheers dude,

shoot wnt well although it was hard work being ehydrated , trying to smile and squeeze the guns all at once

did a bit of a pump in the gym , mainly flys and chins with some bent over rows

feel a bit ill as ive just drank about 1000 litres of water since ive got home

Now that felt good!

Good physique btw.

Sorry - just saw this now! Dublin myself.

How did the pics turn out?

Won’t steal his thunder but he may not respond as he’s a final in london to fly over to today…

His pics are on his blog:

hey mate… well done on the commitment. Just one thing, that blog link isn’t working. Any ideas?
cheers

He’s not a bad PT either

Ok so i got to the finals of the comp although really i reckon the pics dont do any of the guys justice (im neil mct from belfast, middle row - four down)

i know this is T-Nation and ive been a reader since day one but getting into this comp is a great boost for my CV - yes im a bit skinny there and i did drop about 30 - 40 pounds to be leaner on the day but hey , i can always get my size back

the day before the pic i had to travel to london - same day as bomb threat which completetly threw off my carb up plan - when i should have been peaking i was having to ‘shit load’ on burgers and chips the night before and only really about 2 days after the photoshoot did i really feel carbed up

unlucky , but hey , great experience

throw a vote my way - thanks
