Is there a way to cut the dose of a gel cap?

I don’t think so. I can’t remember why, but it’s a no-no.
If you break the gel cap in half, all of the liquid will spill out. So, I can’t imagine there being a way to measure a half dose.
Yes.
What are you looking to divide?
Empty it with a syringe, divide by 2.
Clearly, cutting a gel cap is a mans job!

My father will be using dutasteride but, would prefer to take smaller doses than the 0.5mg gel caps they come in.
I remember TC saying he would add a shot of vodka to a bottle add the gel cap than add 4 more shots of crystal light giving him essentially five .1mg doses. I do not know if this is ideal or even works but, my father does not drink so… Than again if it does work it is only 1/5 of a shot with each dose so maybe.
So is this a question of solubility?
Like, “is the alcohol necessary to the dilution, or will it work with water?”.
if the medicine can be frozen freeze it and use kitchen shears or a sharp knife and place the remaining half in saran wrap(so the moisture won’t be sucked out) and re freeze.

Is the alcohol necessary or did TC want a little kick in the morning?

Ask him yourself. He has an active livespill right?
Dutasteride is said to have a degree of water solubility of < 0.38 ng/mL (i.e., below the assay detection limit); in contrast, its solubility in ethanol is 44 mg/mL.
So, an alcohol-based medium appears to be the preferable vehicle for delivery.
While your father not being a drinker makes this somewhat problematic, consider that one ounce of liquid has a metric system equivalent of ~29.5 mL and that, say, 190-proof Everclear is 95% ABV (about as good as you’re gonna find unless you wanna swipe some anhydrous alcohol from a lab somewhere).
This gives us ~28 mL of ethanol (from an ounce) which, combined with the observed solubility and comparatively lower dose your father requires, makes it a fairly reasonable compromise for consumption (he can easily use a syringe to measure his daily dose rather than a shot glass).

25C (77F with “excursions” permitted to 15-30C (59-86F) per the Avodaret package insert.

lol
So, your father has not yet taken the drug and already wants to take less of it?
Was he prescribed this, if you don’t mind my asking?

Yes, what anonym said above. You need a solute. I poke the capsule several times with a needle and place it in a shot of alcohol.
After a few hours, I add four shots of water. Each dose is then .01 mg.
