Crossfit

No one trolls on this site![/quote]

You’re right, my bad!

What’s hilarious is that I’m actually that farther thing from a CrossFit hater. I think it’s a great program for certain types of people. But, well, trolling is trolling. And, of course, the bit about “roids frying your brains” just confirmed what I had suspected.

I’ve found crossfit to be an excellent excercise. Especially for mma.

It’ll work your muscles in ways you didn’t know they could work.

Not that it should replace traditional training.

I kinda like crossfit too. The only thing he forgot to include that would have firmly cemented the status as a trolling thread was a question on body fat%.

Here’s what cracks me up about the CrossFit bashes. Most guys who do MMA use some sort of CrossFit workout. Yet people on the site will say, “CrossFit is for pussies!” or something like that. Um, yeah, OK…

Now, the whole CrossFit-as-cult drives me batty. But I also think calling one’s self a “FFB” or “T-Man” is pretty lame, too.

Shit, I enjoy this site way more than most - and have been around way longer than most. But this doesn’t make me a “T-Man.” It just makes me some dude who likes the site.

As a side note a poster know as heavythrower had a log of his crossfit experience. He gained a bunch of weight (like 15lbs), and lost a pant size. I had similar results, only problem was a bum knee which made me stop.

Now those that know heavythrower ahs been around T-Nation for a loong time, like back in natedoggs early days. He’s a good credible guy.

Also you could post any questions in Dan John;s locker room. He used CF for a number of years, until a recent falling out which was watched right here in real time on T-Nation. From my experience Dan is TOO willing to help people out

Related to nates post, i have to agree. In the “golden era” T-Nationers were very open minded. It seems much of this has left the site.

This is the most intelligent post I have seen you make on here.

+1 for you.

Can you link us to Dan John’s falling out with crossfit and also Heavy Thrower’s experience?

I didn’t read all the responses, but here are my thoughts on CrossFit:

Great, awesome, excellent resources on their site and in the CrossFit Journal. If you are interested in subscribing to a S&C journal, I would highly suggest the CrossFit Journal. Great writers like Mark Rippitoe about a variety of strength topics from training the elderly to Parkour. Worth many times the subscription cost.

I’m not a big fan of the CrossFit workouts, but I’m just not into thrusters, kipping chins, etc. I understand and have no problem with the CrossFit perspective on power, etc, but I just don’t make an effort to do the WoDs.

CrossFit has certainly had a big impact on S&C - no doubt.

Sorry but you’ll need to find em on your own. The DJ/CF was after one of TCs atomic Dawgs and heavythrowers crossfit experience journal you’ll just need to search cuz I dont have them saved or want to search. Hey just shoot heavythrower a pm and i’m sure he’ll tell you

Well I just stumbled onto Heavythrowers results from CrossFit and lifting

"search for “my crossfit experience” thread, and you will see that this approach to lifting produced the fastes most impressive lean body mass gains i have ever had.

i started crossfit at about 235lbs, and somewhat soft. withen 6-8 weeks, i increased my bodyweight to 255, and actually went DOWN a pant size!!!

i did one ore 2 (usully one) power/strength lift at 5x5, 6x3, or 54321 set schemes, then did a crossfit WOD(essentially a complex).

i got in shape and got freaking big!

so why have i not gone back to this? well for one, it is hard as hell. i am lacking disiplin to stick with a program right now, i do whatever i feel like it that day(check my most recent log, lol)

also, with my recent triceps surgergy, i am so limited to what imovements i can do, it is hard to get a decent varieity especially with upper body movements. i can only squat and pull heavy right now.

but after this article, i might givre it a try again, making my “heavy” movements consisiting of squat, deadlift, and olympic pull variations, and maybe some chins and rows.

i would still have to figure in triceps rehab work and some unilateral upper body stuff though. "

it rocks your socks ho’s
