So I recently decided I wanted to hop back on creatine, to supplement my workout regimen.
Since starting TRT, I pretty much check all supplements/nutrition to see how they affect SHBG, DHT, Free Test…(because I have high shbg)
Not only did I find that creatine increased SHBG, but that it increases DHT to quite some extent. (results taken from pubmed:
After 7 days of creatine loading, or a further 14 days of creatine maintenance dose, serum T levels did not change. However, levels of DHT increased by 56% after 7 days of creatine loading and remained 40% above baseline after 14 days maintenance (P < 0.001). The ratio of DHT:T also increased by 36% after 7 days creatine supplementation and remained elevated by 22% after the maintenance dose (P < 0.01).
I have taken Creatine before, and had no issues. What worried me was the DHT increase.
After taking it for 5 days, I woke up and went to take my morning piss and the flow was restricted. (major issue, I noticed immediately)
My flow was being restricted even when I pushed to make it stronger. I sat there and slowly , slowly drained my bladder. Afterwards, I felt a “fullness” exactly where your prostate is. I have also felt this exact same “fullness” when I had higher E2, and my PSA did come back slightly elevated. Kinda feels like there’s a tennis ball/pressure in there.
I stopped the creatine and all symptoms subsided. I just wanted to put this out there in case it helped anyone who had similar issues. I wonder if the higher DHT content from being on TRT had some effect.
