Crack in Small Towns

I come from a small factory town 27000 people and moved to a bigger city when I was 17. So the other day I got a msg from someone I have not talked with since I was a teen.

I just met up with them not to long ago to catch up and talk about old times and see where everyone is at in there lives. They told me that crack is rampant in the small town I came from. I was speechless. I remember when I was there it was all pot and sometimes LSD. But not crack and meth.

Its in high schools and people are selling everything they own for it. Its not like we were never educated on how bad crack is. But its like these people are losing everything for it. Including there teeth and health and mental stability.

Also oxycotin is huge there too. I just don’t get it. Why would anyone let themselves get that bad and loose everything for it.

Crack is a Canadian problem, as well as North Korea.

Dude grab a 2-by-4 and bust some heads at the local casino.

Dude, the meth and pills thing is everywhere now. Im from a county of 13,000. Used to be beer and pot, now their all cranked out of their minds and you cant hardly find a J in the whole fuckin place. Screwed up.

Edit: The weirdest thing is that its gotten really, really bad in the past 3 months. Went from bad to worst in almost no time.

I’m 22, and I have a cousin who is a senior in high school at the same one I went to.

When I was a senior in a class of ~800, coke wasn’t that big. However it was shockingly popular on the wrestling team. Weed was huge and I smoked as well, thats normal imo. Also vicodin had its users. Thats about it.

At his graduation party, he talks about how someone was caught with meth and ratted out 15 other kids who had meth and pipes either on them or in their lockers/cars. Meth, crack and coke are huge he told me. He isn’t a drug user (I’m hoping) gets great grades and got accepted to Temple.

Kids got that much worse in 4 years? Meth must feel pretty sweet.

Tied to the economy and to momentum. Sad. That’s OK. With Obamas plan we’ll all be paying for them, so that’ll be nice. Those of us with jobs.

I visited my old town recently… I moved from there my junior year of HS and just graduated.

Half the people do coke, crack, shrooms, lsd, x, smoke cigs, and dip their heart away.

Shit makes me sad.

I feel ya man. Same shit happened with most of my old friends. Started out with booze and weed, now everyone’s graduated to coke, E and other drugs pretty hard. No ones done crack or meth yet but it’s only a matter of time.

Seems to be a trend, my hometown went from being known for great schools and a good area that people moved to take their kids away from problem areas.

Now the the entire town is corrupted by drugs and that’s what its known for. What surprised me is how bad the middle school has got, 11-14 year old kids doing hard shit.

This all happened in the last 3 years

I dont think you really “graduate” from one drug to another, its a personal choice that each individual makes. We all know that some weakminded people will get hooked on crack/meth and start giving blumpkins for it right? However some people still feel the need to experiment.

Drugs are everywhere and it will always be a problem until maybe some govt official realises that rehab does the community better than just locking up people for the “crime”.

If you ever use a strong addicting drug like meth, crack, coke, nicotine you will find that 30 minutes later you will only be concerned about getting another hit. Thats what separates them from other drugs like alcohol and marijuana.

Here on LI there is a huge heroin issue, and it just surfaced in the recent two years. I am going to be a senior in H.S., and I know that the seniors of 08 were big into coke, so I’m expecting the same out of most my grade. As a kid who doesn’t smoke and rarely ever drinks, I find this disturbing and frustrating. No point in throwing away all you’ve worked for.

I’m from Long Island too and harder drugs seem to becoming more popular and at younger ages. A friend of mine died of a heroin overdose a few weeks ago.

One of my best friends who’s into drugs said that heroin, vicodine, percocet, and oxycontin are all a similar high. He started out with taking vicodine and percocet from his parents cabinets and has done just about every major drug since.

The scary part is he said if given the choice of heroin or an oxycontin, a heroin addict would choose the oxycontin. And to top that, whenever I would hangout with him he would always be trying to find anti anxiety pills. I think he was more hooked on the anxiety pills then anything else.

They are all either opiates, or opoids so that would make sense. Almost everyone I know who’s done a hard narcotic started out with someone elses rxed vicodin, anti anxiety drugs(valium, etc) or oxycodone. The stuff is easy as hell to get in any highschool across the US. It’s foolish to think otherwise.

There is no way someone who knows how to use a needle would rather take oxy. Even skin popping will probably give a better rush. Your friend is probably smoking incredibly shitty tar heroin.

Your right. Maybe he was thinking in terms of someone who only snorts heroin. Or he could be wrong, doesn’t matter.

My point anyway was that kids can so easily fall into the world of drugs, through things prescribed to them or someone in there house.

crack… yeah scarry stuff. i used to smoke crack but i always preferred blow to be honest. i actually have a little over a years sobriety from it. seriously though, thats why i bodybuild now. gotta focus on health to keep my mind off all the bad shit in the world.

Coke is huge here in southern california, I guess its a rich thing. I knew a lot of people who did it at some of the nicer high schools.

Yeah, I see a lot of coke abuse from my former high school (in a rich suburb), where as in the poorer parts I see people more likely to be on meth (because it’s so easy to make perhaps?)

heroin is huge here. only people that do crack are old people here. but i see a junkie every day and if they arent on strait dope then theyre taking OxyCoton. my city has these signs that say “No Oxy Zone”
and under that it says “Malden rOCks” with the OC portion as a picture of a pill.

Mass has always had drugs problems though, back in the 80s Lowell was the crack capital of the world. theres even an HBO documentary about it.
