Conditioning with a Herniated Disc

4 weeks ago I herniated a disc in my lumbar playing Rugby out on the island of Tonga. I am still out here and have made big strides in recovery, however I am still experiencing numbness in my leg. DAmn sciatica!

Right when I got hurt I was in outstanding shape and have since been gaining small amounts of fat on my midsection, losing overall muscle and weight and I easily become out of breath when doing pushups. Frick!

Any ideas for safe ways to burn fat and increase my lung capacity/VO2max? I cannot run as the numbness increases big time, essentially shutting my leg down.
