So, I like to lift at night, usually going to the gym around 10pm. Will doing a series of barbell complexes, then going to sleep shortly after negate the longer (hours) term effects of them? Or do I need to suck it up and do them in the morning to get the most out of the exercise.

If you can do those 3 things, in that order, then you're fine.
Tour de France cyclists take several naps through out the day because recovery is best when sleeping.
I agree with LBLaze. I havent seen spec. study on the topic, but it seems like if you are able to get your post workout nutrition in before bed the sleep may actually help. If you are having trouble sleeping, reconsider.
