Clinto Lied, Thousands Died

If you send one of your minions to steal and destroy highly classified documents, said documents quite likely showing your culpability regarding terrorism, should you be put on trial for treason?

On the evening of Oct. 2, 2003, former White House national security adviser Samuel R. “Sandy” Berger stashed highly classified documents he had taken from the National Archives beneath a construction trailer at the corner of Ninth Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW so he could surreptitiously retrieve them later and take them to his office, according to a newly disclosed government investigation.

The documents he took detailed how the Clinton administration had responded to the threat of terrorist attacks at the end of 1999. Berger removed a total of five copies of the same document without authorization and later used scissors to destroy three before placing them in his office trash, the National Archives inspector general concluded in a Nov. 4, 2005, report."

Billy, Sandy ‘Burglar’ and all the scum should be put on trial for treason.

LOL.

Y’know, tampering with records like this is important and wrong, and most likely nobody would disagree with that, but then you have to turn it into some apocalyptic bullshit.

I’d guess if the era of attack politics and reframing history wasn’t upon us, people wouldn’t be trying to control information so much.

That’s the bigger issue… controlling or cherry picking information. That is what government does these days. Get used to it… or at least recognize it is endemic, and decry it in totality instead of continuously being a puppet moron spewing someone elses political agenda.

Good job nuthugger.

Exactly. It’s not a partisan problem. Bush has been a terrorist wet dream. He created an entirly new generation of angry young Muslims with little to lose, and a hatred for America.

Stop acting like corruption is a liberal only thing. Rummy should be on trila for a multitude of things, as well as Cheney and Bush. None of which things have anything to do with something as insignificant as who they screwed.

Bush also lied and thousands have died. So what are we to make of that? The problem isn’t liberal vs. conservative. The problem has to do with the endemic corruption of American politics and big business. We must start with the system, not picking sides - which is exactly what they want you to do!

Who the fuck is “Clinto”, anyway? Another douchebag wannabe hero from Ohio?

Thanks for taking the time to respond to the only non-significant post! Really, I know you could have responded to the moderate, intelligent post, but that would be far to below you.

God, responding to the intelligent people. I’m sorry I even brought it up. I apologize if my suggestion to respond intelligently offended you in any way.

Are you even reading the same article as the rest of us? Because most of what you said, and what the article actually mentions, don’t really coincide.

The search function isn’t working properly right now, as I can’t pull up the old threads on Sandy Berger.

Previously one might have given Berger the benefit of the doubt, but not anymore. This whole thing stinks to high heaven.

EXCERPT:

President Clinton’s national security adviser removed classified documents from the National Archives, hid them under a construction trailer and later tried to find the trash collector to retrieve them, the agency’s internal watchdog said Wednesday.

The report was issued more than a year after Sandy Berger pleaded guilty and received a criminal sentence for removing the documents.

Berger took the documents in the fall of 2003 while working to prepare himself and Clinton administration witnesses for testimony to the Sept. 11 commission. Berger was authorized as the Clinton administration’s representative to make sure the commission got the correct classified materials…

Inspector General Paul Brachfeld reported that National Archives employees spotted Berger bending down and fiddling with something white around his ankles.

The employees did not feel at the time there was enough information to confront someone of Berger’s stature, the report said.

Later, when Berger was confronted by Archives officials about the missing documents, he lied by saying he did not take them, the report said.

Brachfeld’s report included an investigator’s notes, taken during an interview with Berger. The notes dramatically described Berger’s removal of documents during an Oct. 2, 2003, visit to the Archives.

Berger took a break to go outside without an escort while it was dark. He had taken four documents in his pockets.

“He headed toward a construction area. … Mr. Berger looked up and down the street, up into the windows of the Archives and the DOJ (Department of Justice), and did not see anyone,” the interview notes said.

He then slid the documents under a construction trailer, according to the inspector general. Berger acknowledged that he later retrieved the documents from the construction area and returned with them to his office.

“He was aware of the risk he was taking,” the inspector general’s notes said. Berger then returned to the Archives building without fearing the documents would slip out of his pockets or that staff would notice that his pockets were bulging.

The notes said Berger had not been aware that Archives staff had been tracking the documents he was provided because of earlier suspicions from previous visits that he was removing materials. Also, the employees had made copies of some documents.

In October 2003, the report said, an Archives official called Berger to discuss missing documents from his visit two days earlier. The investigator’s notes said, “Mr. Berger panicked because he realized he was caught.”

The notes said that Berger had “destroyed, cut into small pieces, three of the four documents. These were put in the trash.”

I agree.

Libby, Armitage, and Rove should join him.

yes

Yes, really, the more we can focus on events that are half a decade in the past the less we’ll pay attention to the current issues.

I don’t think anybody is excusing past transgressions, so let’s stop using them to excuse current transgressions. That is a childs game.

Oh, wait, now I get it.

Headhunter has Clinton Derangement Syndrome.

I would love to know what was on those documents and I think Sandy Berger should be prosecuted to th efullest extent of the law.

I also think the MSM has to do a better job of reporting this. This is real news.

Let Berger share a cell with Libby, Rove, and Armitage.

I agree, the whole Katrina thing and the war in Iraq were/are just distracting us from the real big news!

Sure. With a name like Sandy I am sure he would be their bitch.

Please. The former National Security Advisor stealing classified documents regarding terrorism for unknown reasons prior to his testimony to the 9/11 commission and then destroying them with scissors should be huge news.

I think the MSM could spare a few minutes to report on this scandal.

This really is an amazingly scandalous story. If the name was Condoleezza Rice instead of Sandy Berger, anyone else think the coverage would be the same? Me neither.

Guys, this may come as a shock, but as things go further in the past, they often get less coverage, because they become less significant.

I obviously don’t know what needed to be erased. It was probably some hand written notes or something on an original source document. I suspect that all official policies, decisions and actions are still documented though.

Shoot, I don’t know, since he was pardoned I don’t know that much can be done but attempt to blow it way out of proportion and make it into as big a possible potential scandal as possible.

Lap it up!
