Taijiquan/thai chi isn’t really “kung fu”, or at least I wouldn’t classify it as one. The internal styles (bagua zhang, taijiquan, hsing yi) are kind of in their own category. If you find someone who actually focuses heavily on the martial side of the art and isn’t afraid to actually test stuff out and improve/adjust things if they find better ways of doing them, then it can be a legitimate system.
That said, those people would be the minority. There are far more schools/instructors who are purely theoretical in their “applications” and focus much more heavily on the health benefits side of the system.
