cell phone battery charging

do i charge it, wait till the thing is totally drained, then recharge it? or should i just recharge it every night ?

If you have the older ni-cd battery, then you want to fully discharge before charging to prevent loss of capacity.

If your phone has a ni-mh or Li-ion battery, which most current phones do, you can keep it charged, as these batteries have very little “memory” effect. A full discharge cycle every month or two might still be a good idea, but isn’t nearly as critical as with ni-cd’s.

P.S. The batt type should be marked on the battery, but you might have to remove it to see the label.

If it’s lithium ion it doesn’t matter. If it’s nickel metal hydride it’s a good idea to let it run down, but it’s not too important. Don’t charge it every night if it’s already full. If it’s nickel cadmium run it down to pretty much drained before charging it. If you charge it while it is already charged it will shorten the battery life. Lithium are memory resistant, m/h are sorta memory resistant and cadmium are suceptable to memory.
