Should I be doing cardio before lifting? I was told to do some cardio work before lifting just to get my heart rate up and to warm up a little bit but, I really don’t know how much cardio is enough or not. I have been runnign on the treadmill for around 10-12 minutes at a fast jog and on an incline. I sweat my ass off but, when I start lifting I find that I am really sluggish. The obvious answer would be to lay off the cardio but, I would like to know how much to lay off, also, should I be drinking something besides water? Would it give me more energy without making me feel bloated?
In my opinion you are better off saving the cardio for after your workout. You do want to get the blood flowing and get your body ready to lift but there are other ways to do it besides running on a treadmill. You could do some mobility drills and bodyweight work like squats, lunges, and pushups.

Sweet, I’ll try that today instead of hitting the treadmill before hitting the weights, thanks for the input!
So I switched it up today and worked my arms before hopping on the treadmill for around 10-12 minutes. I noticed an immediate difference in my energy levels while lifting by doing so, thanks for the advice guys, very much appreciated! I really didn’t want to cut cardio out of my workout, my fat ass needs all the burn it can get
10-12 minutes of cardio is practically nothing but if that suits you than go for it.
A carb/protein drink is a good idea during the workout.
CT has written a lot about his “para nutrition” ideas. I suggest reading them.
Yeah, I do 10-12 minutes during the day but, that’s only because I hit the gym at my lunch break. Once I go home I usually walk for around an hour/hour and a half and hit the treadmill after dinner for another 30 minutes before hitting my rack.
I do exclusively cardio on Wednesday without lifting at all. So would muscle milk be an alright drink for during workouts or something lighter? Right now i have a shake in the morning and one at night, I’m also taking HOT-ROX (as recommended on an empty stomach) and fish oil with meals.
If your looking to drop weight. Were gonna need your height, weight, estimated bodyfat %, complete nutrition and training program.
HOT-ROX won’t help a whole lot if your nutrition is not in order.
