Canadian Govt. to Fall on Monday

Do we have any early predictions on how this election will end up?

What do you think the major theme of the election will be, and what issues do you think each party would like to dominate?

I don’t think that a conservative majority is very likely given the polls that I’ve seen and that public perception doesn’t seem to have changed that radically since the last election. I think that to form a majority the conservatives would have to win about 80% of the ridings in Ontario, which doesn’t seem that likely.

A conservative minority that sets up a deal with the Bloc is much more likely, but would seem to be completely contingent on how many of the Bloc’s progressive social policies the Conservatives would be willing to accept.

A Liberal-Bloc, or Liberal-NDP alliance would seem to be just as likely, so it would seem that the two non-opposition parties have the most to gain from this election.

How do people feel about having the Bloc regulating some/most of the Conservatives’ more right wing social policies? If you voted for the conservatives for their conservative financial bent, then I would imagine that alliance is acceptable, but if you’re a social conservative I could foresee some major issues arising regarding religion, etc.

I think that in the end we’re most likely to see another liberal minority government, but I wouldn’t want to put money on it.

Your thoughts?

Cheers,

Soup

I’ve really gotta second this notion. I would vote Bloc if all there policies weren’t only with regards to Quebec. I thought Ducette was awesome in the debate last year! Think I’ll be voting NDP again, hopefully they’ll make a run soon…guess only if people stop voting status quo.

Canada needs porn stars in Parliment too.

Looks as if the race is currently very close:

Ah, anarchy. It’s so nice in Canada right now. Me and my machine gun and no laws… sigh. If only it could be this way all the time.

Anyhow, I’ve printed off the application form to run as an independent. All it takes is one hundred voters signatures and $1000. My name can be on the local ballot.

I’m thinking about it. No, I wouldn’t have even a prayer of winning, that isn’t the issue at all.

There really isn’t a good choice out there…except Layton…and I am not sure this country needs any more lefty shit.

I’m basing my vote purely on the leader of each party. As it really should be in my opinion.

I’ll likely vote NDP as well…believe it or not…I just think Layton has ballz and when you have one of the best NDP guys come back on board to support your leadership it’s a sign of a pretty big change in the party.

Harper has his own motives…without the press getting their digs on it.

Martin is a very poor leader and reaks of no confidence.

Bloc…I support a unified country and I’m in Ontario so I can’t even vote for them anyways.

NDP…the more of them in their the more swing votes and influence they have…actually I think the NDP have the most to gain!

It’ll split minority again and we’ll be 350mill spent for no reason.

Sponsorship scandal is just a method to get the liberals out of government. Partisan appointments are nothing new…shit…every single prime minister in has appointed his cronies…it’s run of the mill in this country. Have a look at Trudeau’s record…

Governments are corrupt by nature…power is intoxicating and humans have a vice for it. It doesn’t change the fact that certain people are better for this country than others.

I’m pretty upset we’re having an election…it makes no sense to spend money to end up with essentially the same output.

Blah…it does indeed make for interesting news though.
