If running spybot/adaware and a good virus removal program (windows defender, or whatever) does not fix the problem, I would reinstall windows.

You MUST focus on prevention. Why did you get this? Are you practicing safe computing? :)[/quote]
Would I need to back everythign up before i reinstall windows, or does it just overwrite win files and leave personal files alone? Crap, I’m not even 100% sure where my win installation disk is

I allowed my webroot subscription to expire. I thoguht that since I wasnt visiting porn sites on that computer I’d be ok

I do believe there is an option to reinstall just the system files. I’ve never actually done this (sorry) and can’t comment on it except to say that it’s worth trying this first, before doing a complete wipe. If you do do a complete wipe, you will need to back everything up beforehand.

If you lost your installation disk, feel free to PM me.

Oh, and it’s a good idea to back up your data (office documents, pictures, music, etc.) anyway, hard drives don’t last forever. And, again, unfortunately I don’t know of any good automated backup utilities to help you with this. I do it manually by burning CDs/DVDs or otherwise copying files to another device/online storage space.

thanks, I am in the process of learning this the hard way? Coincidentally, another, older computer that I have crashed last weekend. Blue screen of death, it’s asking for a boot disk, etc etc. I was in the process of moving all the files over to my new computer, but there are still files on there that I’d like to have, so now I’ve gotta look into data recovery as well :frowning:

guess I should’ve known better, like i said i was in the process of backing it up, from now on i’m just getting an external hd to copy everything onto that

If you plug your MP3 player to your computer, it should appear like an external hard drive or flash drive. Use AVG or any other free anti-virus programs to clean your MP3 player.
