Calories in Chicken Breast

at the risk of sounding like an idiot…

Calorieking says 1 oz of baked chicken is 47 calories, that means that the chicken i bought at whole foods is 469 calories per breast (or half breast, one side when split). This can’t be right. The package says 3.8 lbs, that x’s 16 is 60 and divided by 3 breast leaves 20 ounces per breast and 10 for that half.

469? Where am I wrong? 469 calories does not cover a salad that easily.

Bone-in chicken breast? is that what you bought? Bones have weight too, and you can’t eat them really…

If not, chicken breasts can be huge. And keep in mind that the weight on the package is raw weight. They loose some weight when cooked.

Nah they were boneless, I’m just trying to account for how much weight is lost when cooked (roughly).

7.3 g fat (weird, may have been cooked with skin, then measured with skin taken off, seems a little big for variation)

raw breast with skin, no bone:
487 kcal
59g protein
26.2g fat

same breast cooked (roasted) - 198g:
390 kcal
59g protein
15.4g fat

Chicken breast clocks in at about 600 calories per pound, which is generally around 250-300 calories per breast. Raw weight can differ quite a bit from cooked weight, which makes those websites that give caloric information based on cooked weight ridiculous. No one weighs cooked chicken, we go by the weight on the package.

I always weigh my chicken after it’s been cooked. I cook in bulk then weigh before eating it.
