Buying Equipment

Reed how can I make a chain yoke? I’ve been thinking of making homemade stuff first cause I have 3 friends that all take a welding class so maybe I can get them to make me some farm walk handles and an axle. My main concern is finding a log, not only is that my favorite exercise but it’s a tough one I need to train for early on. Anyone know how to possibly make a homemade log?

The simplest way to make a log would be to get an actual log. Probably a few of varying sizes. I live in Oregon, so access to logs is easy. The tricky part would be figuring out how to install handles. Take a look at the photos at the link below. You’ll have to cut away wood to place bars for handles. Obviously, they will have to be attached very securely.

Eh, adding handles shouldn’t be hard. Get a saw, some thick bolts, a drill, some nuts, and baby, you’ve got a stew going!

I’ve read some things about making logs and it seemed like a pretty involved process. I’m sure it depends on what you start with, but you have to know what you’re doing so it doesn’t crack or rot. You want to make sure you get the handles in nice and strong and that the log won’t come apart the first time you put it down a little heavier. Plus, if you want it to be plate loaded you have to mount sleeves on the end.

I haven’t done it myself, but I’ve read some accounts of people doing it and it seemed to be rather involved. Maybe they overcomplicated it though.
