It’s actually a lot scarier than this when you’re up there looking down.
Keep in mind you’re landing by those little colored specks, which are cars.
Also, as was mentioned in this thread, you can see one of the smaller build-up jumps off to the right.

I have always been in awe of the Hermanator. The guy is a beast.
Personally, I don’t think it’s ever gotten worse than that Hermann Maier crash. I skiied a little downhill and GS in high school, and I’ve never ever seen anybody crash that hard…
