It would be unbelieveably stupid to keep doing hip thrusts as an assistance exercise if it ends up exceeding your squat.

While I get the sentiment, your quote shows a lack of understanding of the bio-mechanics of the Big 3.

Explain please.
In addition to what other poster said, you should have interchanged squats with deadlifts in your argument, since the latter use the glutes to a much greater extent.
Think about this for a moment. Do you leg press less weight than you squat???
Ronnie Coleman squatted 800x2 and leg pressed 2300x8. Lets multiply that by sin 45=0.707 (since its at an angle of around 45 degrees) to get 1626 pounds x 8.
You could go a bit further and correct that to (sin 45 + \mu_s cos 45) on the positive phase to correct for kinetic friction.
Point is - you’ll likely leg press a lot more than you squat to parallel. So what are you/we doing wrong here? Should we all leg press 300 pounds x 12 since we need to lift at least 200 pounds less than our 1RM in wraps?
You can likely lift a lot more than you squat on the hip thrust without turning it into a max effort movement lol, just looking at how you perform the movement and if you set up “properly”. The set up is the make or break point of any damn movement, be it powerlifting Or DC style training where you find the best biomechanical position to move weight on a given movement.
Disclaimer: Ive never performed hip thrusts and won’t be adding them in anytime soon.

And this guy released a book on powerlifting???
^ Alright. Points taken. I must also admit I’m somewhat biased about Bret’s writings due to other stuff he has written, and being biased isn’t a good thing to be. Since infinite shore endorses it, I’ll try it out on my next couple of leg days. It will be fun getting my wife to do them as well lol.
I checked out RDL Fitness after seeing this thread and that might the biggest load of shit I ever read. “Avoid, avoid, avoid” if you take all his articles as a whole there isn’t anything you CAN do.
