Little bro came back for winter break and mum got kind of freaked out that he was becoming “feminine”
He got his ears pierced, had nail polish on and mum found an eyeliner pen in his bag (that’s probably one of his female friend’s pen though)
Maybe I’m just woke, but I don’t see the big deal. He’s still the same person (and a good one at that)
Why does it matter how he chooses to adorn himself. It doesn’t change annything about his character.
Also, men historically used to wear makeup and ornate jewellery. Granted, that was hundreds of years ago, still…
It’s not a big deal. Guys have been doing these things for a long time. We had “emo” kids in high school who had black nail polish, eyeliner, gauged ears etc…
No one said KISS was feminine even back in the day.
Heracles was beautiful, took on many male lovers, and killed the Nemean lion, so I’d say it’s going to be ok.
That said, as a parent, all you want for your children is for them to have a happy, successful life, and for the most part that includes living a life that is “the path of least resistance”.
I will love my kid no matter who they are, but I DO hope for them that they vector toward societal accepted norms simply so that they don’t have to fight the battles that come alongside being “different”.
This is a great point. Those battles may be heavy on the mental health side and require extra diligence from parents. As parents, we don’t want out kids to see adversity but at the same time recognize the need for adversity so that they may become stronger and more confident in who they are. Like most things in life, it’s a bit paradoxical.
Ears pierced is a little weird but guys do it sometimes. They always end up being either 40 y/o dudes you KNOW are staring at 16 y/o girls, or they’re gay, but it’s possible to not fit this mold i guess.
Nail polish is a further bridge IMO. Mani/pedi are acceptable in certain circles and i won’t shame anyone who gets a clear coat or black, but if we’re talking like hot pink or really any other color - it’s sus.
If he’s wearing guyliner, he’s gay or the most out of touch KISS fan ever. So make sure it’s not his lol.
I wouldn’t advocate for men to be doing these things at any age, but fighting against it is a good way to make sure little bro turns into an angry gay. Just try to give him a non-domineering male role model and he’ll probably go back to normal. Colleges like to make men into women.
Sounds like he is being rebellious. He knows they won’t approve. Just trying to figure who he is. I have seen all kinds. Some good, some bad. But… if he starts wearing a pink feather boa, with a beard, and skirt with mens boots on (true story)…thennn, I’d say you need to have talk.
The big question is… what difference does it make? He is who he is. It has always sounded like your parents are pretty strict. He is old enough to be tired of their bullshit. Has to spread those wings and fly.
Although I want my kids to be happy, nail polish and eyeliner would be completely off the list of acceptable “accessories”. I guess I grew up in a more conservative family, even though I don’t share ALL conservative values, but the way society is transforming is rather troubling.
