Books or comic books that should be made into movies.

Hey Patricia, what did you think of the animated Heavy Metal 2000? I haven’t seen it, but the original film adaptation of the comic is one of my all time faves. Great soundtrack, too. Had it on 8 track when I was a kid (sigh). Personally, I always thought that Marvel’s Black Panther could have made a great flick.

Venom/Carnage would make a good movie too. & what about Spawn? Somebody should make a Spawn movie. & the soundtrack should have metallica & slayer teamed up with prodigy, & orbital, etc. That would make a good workout cd.

Id like to see a Batman Beyond movie, not that old-style fat Batman with silly bad guys and shitty plots, but a slimmer, more serious and longer-ear-pointed Bat who would fight real crime. The leading role… Any young actor with a great V-taper. And an old Batman actor, like Clooney, could play Bruce.

Demo: I didn’t like Heavy Metal 2000. The quality of the animation, believe it or not, was sub-par, when compared to the first. But I know what you mean about the original. I have the movie in my studio, so when I’m working late, I can pop it in (actually, I have about over 100 movies for VCR, and we’re working on our DVD collection now). AND someday, someday - I will choose something from that soundtrack to pose to. Let me tell you this: in 1992, Heavy Metal had not even been released on video yet. Due to the copyright battles with the musical talent and movie studio - but I got a bootleg copy at a comic book show. Total score. Very happy! I’ve got a legit version now…

Drax: You do know a Spawn movie was done? Right? And they are working on a sequel. However, Todd McFarlane (creator), had to wait until the original studio's contract expired and now he's looking for a new studio for the sequel. Ahh, the politics of movies....

Veljko: Clooney has had the "misfortune" of being Bruce. I say "misfortune" because it was one of the worst pieces of shit on film. I think we're all in agreement here on this: Joel Schumacher (director of Batmans 3&4)should just direct really-gay Broadway musicals. I like the now-studio idea of either Kurt Russell or getting Michael Keaton to portray a elder Bruce Wayne.

Patricia: I got too see Sammy Hagar and the Waboritas perform “Heavy Metal” live at an outdoor venue a couple years ago (good choice for posing). That concert blew the doors off of anything I’d seen, and the film’s soundtrack was and is one of my favorite albums of all time. I am aware that it is the reason that the movie is “held up” in various mediums (hey I’M the one who likes to point out that geek stuff to my friends-LOL). My brother and I had taped versions that we lifted from Skinemax in the early 90’s, and he has the legit tape now, too. FYI, it has been released on DVD:

And if you don’t have the soundtrack on CD:

Good stuff indeed.

Here’s a little bit from Roger Ebert’s three and a half (out of four) review on Blade2:

Still in his 30s, the Mexican-born director doesn't depend on computers to get him through a movie and impress the kids with fancy fight scenes. He brings his creepy phobias along with him. You can sense the difference between a movie that's a technical exercise ("Resident Evil") and one steamed in the dread cauldrons of the filmmaker's imagination.

We're seeing this tonight! Oh, and Black Panther? Wesley Snipes is campaigning heavily to be the Black Panther.

Another book that would make a good movie: Good Omens by Neil Gaiman. I understand that Terry Gilliam wants to direct his one. That would be perfect!

I read a couple books from a series YEARS ago that I thought would make great movies. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the titles or the author, but they were set in the OLD celtic times, before the “Braveheart” time frame, and had two societies, one technologically advanced, the other what we know of as the “real” Celtic society. The second one I read had a group with a bunch of mutations and mechanical prostheses. Maybe some one else here has read tehm and can help out with the titles?

Musashi ummmmmm is that the guy that never took a bath cause he was afraid of people getting the jump on him? No I’m not starting a sanitary war again. Heheheh. Is he the guy that had that fight on the beach where he kills the other great swordsman with an oar from the boat he paddled up to meet him with? Cause if so that guys cool.

Julie Bell and Boris Valejo don’t have to wish. Heheh. But I’m not starting a subjective arguement about art here.

How did I forget about Joe Jusko.

All good pics. Crossgen kickass eh? Drunna…slobber…ooooohhhhh. Who the hell could play her??? That would have to be a porno movie. Hehehh. Serpieri another great artist.

Oh, and it goes without saying that (big surprise) IMO Rogue Warrior: Red Cell should be made into a movie, as long as Dick Marcinko is hired as a technical advisor.

Yes, Choke is definitely worth a read.

Tommyboy to Slaine:
Latest info I have on Conan says they are making a Conan 3 and Arnold is playing Conan. The story takes place when he is a king which places him in his late 40’s to mid 50’s according to the books I’ve read. So an older Arnold would work.

Patricia, have you seen the book ‘Law and Chaos’ by Wendy Pini? It is all of her ‘Elric’ work from a while ago. She was working on it for a class in college, it never made it to film but her art is stunning.

I'd love to see an ElfQuest movie (my number one all time hands down favorite comic). One has been in the works for YEARS but it has had about a million roadblocks.

Dazzler? LAME-O! I didn't like her in the first place... if they're gonna pick a single X-man at least they could pick a GOOD one! I'm voting for Wolverine or Pheonix

I'll be first in line for Dragonlance, as long as the idiots who did Dungeons & Dragons stay the hell away from it! D&D was the first movie I ever almost walked on on... *gag*

I STILL want Superfriends!!! Though Patricia is right, casting would be a nightmare!

*laugh* BOHICA - I learned that word at my first job out of college...

I’ll tell you some stuff that should be made into a movie. I found a website www.symphonyofsteel.com man this has some messed up stuff on it. Stories about Zombies and vampires etc. Man that shit is outrageous, check it out.

Of course Star Wars would be tops but they’ve already done that story arc. I can’t wait for Episode II: The Attack of the Clones to come out! Finally, I get to see some background on Boba Fett, the MOST FEARED BOUNTYHUNTER IN THE GALAXY…

That would be him. A true bad ass, he also wrote the book of 5 rings. A great book on strategy.

Hey ko, I am in the process of reading Musashi right now. So far it is great. I was wondering what your opinion is on the book of five rings. I am considering giving it a read after i finish Musashi. thanx much

Y’know I can go on and on with this topic…really. I have to admit this topic is MUCH MORE
interesting then the “I slept with some girl…is that cheating on my girlfriend?” or “how do I make my pee-pee HUGE?” Really.

AND this stuff is much more important, wouldn't y'all agree? he he he.

I just read the plotline for The X-Men sequel (official title: X2). It will involve the Sentinals and Legacy Virus. It will also have the ENTIRE
cast from X1 returning (except for: Toad and Sabertooth). Just a little bit of info for all of you's.

nkeago: Let me further explain my remark about Julie Bell and Boris Valejo (and I KNOW I'm misspelling his name...). They use models and photos for their paintings. And it's rather obvious. Their paintings are static and devoid of movement. While in Frazetta's paintings, there is life even in the FLOWERS. He uses his imagination as his source. He transports the viewer to this other dimension, another world. His men are not psuedo bodybuilders, but men whose physiques have been built by the constant wielding of a heavy sword. His paintings have a spirit, a life of it's own. Very inspiring. While Ms. Bells and Mr. Valejo's work are rather pedestrian. The same can be said of Jeffrey Jones. Who actually worked with Frazetta. But decided to not do his own "thing" but be a third-rate Frazetta wannabe. Sad.

I also am a fan of Bernie Wrightson and got to meet him at San Diego. Kewl guy. And talent.

Another "comic" artist I absolutely love: Geoff Darrow. Remember Frank Miller's Hard Boiled? It had art by Geoff. WOW
. Darrow was also the conceptual artist for the Matrix.
