Bolton Reverts Position on Iraq

An excerpt from a BBC interview with Bolton reveals some interesting facts.

Here’s what I found worth noting:

  • A US diplomat openly admitting he was lying. Not surprisingly, and despite his famous UN speeches, he wasn’t sharing Bush’s viewpoint.

  • A notorious neo-con arguing that US troops should have left Iraq long ago.

  • That he tacitly acknowledges removing Saddam was not part of the war on terror. When asked by the interviewer that “[…]Ok, Saddam was a dictator, but Iraq was not then a failed-state and not a haven for terrorists, and that’s precisely what you created in Iraq” Bolton replies "Well, that’s great.

You’d rather live in a dictatorship than in a failed state. That’s your preference, that wouldn’t be my preference".

  • The assertion that having a bunch of nuclear-science-educated people equals is the same as having WMD’s. I found the latter laughably preposterous.

Others picked on the “hand washing” part. Watch it, it’s concise and fun!

And just so you know who the source he is referring to are:

I had my suspicions when I started reading it. Non-partisan my ass.

Seriously, who would think that a website named ThinkPROGRESS.org is non-partisan? I don’t think they’re doing a good job at hiding their political orientations. For that, I don’t think your post is of any value to the discussion.

If you bothered reading what I wrote, you’d note that I carefully made sure not to adopt the position fo the Thinkprogress.org guy. Instead I recommended the video and made my own analysis of it. That’s what I’m asking you guys to do.

If you can find somewhere else where the full-version of the interview is hosted, feel free to share. Otehrwise, focus on discussing the BBC interview. Thanks.
