there was actually a tnation article or thread(can’t remember) from a while back that had these photos, they just gave a general outline and what too expect at certain levels of leaness, so maybe just give this guy a go instead of tearing him apart
I don’t know about some of the estimates in that link, esp. the ones claiming to be a higher percentage, but for such a question thats as good an answer your going to get.

LOL.
Generation Fail.
Seriously I’m just hoping that its a joke…I don’t see why any male (using that word very loosely btw) would want to weigh only 170lbs…unless they are less than 4’ tall maybe?
this guy looks pretty damn good at just over 170
Not sure how accurate it is, but it is the same person, so at least there is some consistency there. The fat percentages may be a little off.

What?
This kid could weigh all over 130lbs and you are telling him to simply "lose fat and maintain?
jeez, jump to conclusions much? What I meant, was that if you’re satisfied with your current muscle mass, but want to show it off, start losing fat and you will find the % that you’re happy with as you lose fat.
was just easier to type what I did. Now, in hindsight it wasn’t since you thought I meant for a bean pole to cut

Is it just me or does that Abdominator dude look like Ghandi but with a better physique?

I seriously don’t understand the whole obsession with bf precentages. Scott hit the nail on the head and I feel that those same people who obsess over a number instead of the mirror or the tape measure are approaching thiw whole issue wrong.
BF percentages make ZERO sense equally whether you are a skinny bastard looking to get to ‘6%’ before he ‘bulks’ or a fat dude who needs to lose the fat.
IS it really so much heresy to just look in the mirror and decide whether you like what you see instead of following some arbitrary numerical code?
Bodybuilders love numbers. I mean, even you agree with using a tape measure. Isn’t that another form of an ‘arbitrary numerical code’?
How much do I weigh? What is your deadlift max? How big are your arms? How many pounds did I gain last month? How many pounds did I lose last month?
Isn’t it obvious then, that these same people would be interested in their bodyfat percentages as well?
With that said, I can agree with you that the numbers game is very much over-emphasized. I’m just playing devil’s advocate here.

No. Everyone from newbies to advanced lifters understands that height has much to do with those measurements and your biceps measurement is way less “arbitrary” than your body fat percentage.
If the only info you have on someone is that they are of average height, relatively lean yet have 20" arms, you can bet that person is going to have some pretty muscular looking arms. the same can NOT be said by someone claiming “10% body fat”.
Most of the people worried this much about what number they happen to be are NOT big muscular people. Most of these guys are little guys. Are you saying you see the biggest lifters on this site worried about their specific number to this degree?
Asking someone how many pounds they gained implies progress as far as growing muscle mass. Some little guy worried about whether he is 10% body fat is exactly the opposite 90% of the time.

Yeah I don’t disagree with any of your points here, though I would like to say that I believe checking bodyfat % can help determine progress from both a muscle-building and weight-loss standpoint. I would guess that even you have had your bodyfat checked at some time before, right?
I guess my point to the post was that checking bodyfat is not completely useless. But again, I agree that most of the people who are consistently worried about being lean are also the same ones who will continue to suffer from lack of progress.
0% Bodyfat, hope this helps ;^)
I already know I’m going to hell, no need to remind me.

So now we get 20 posts about this picture just because some of you were unaware that there are people starving to death in third world countries?
Yes, while the rest of the world gets fatter and fatter, there actually is some kid somewhere who hasn’t eaten anything in weeks.

I think people want to know numbers because progress in the mirror happens the slowest I think. I mean… when you look at yourself 20 times a day you stop seeing progress.
I say go on birth control to lose some weight. One reason why chicks dig the pill.
And posting that picture was an absolutely classless thing to do because you tried to use the photo out of context, when in reality it only HAS one context - that in which it was taken.

uh, it wasn’t that that created that reaction prof, more like the fact that it would even be brought up now and joked about. Like talking shit about someone at their funeral to their loved ones. just not right.
