Blood Test Results: Course of Action

Hello T-Nation,

I just received the results of a bloodtest from my doctor, and while he said everything was pretty much normal, I’m not sure I trust his definition of “normal”.

I know my cholesterol levels are relatively high, but I’ve only began “bodybuilding” (former fat boy) in February, so I figure they will drop in accordance with my now-healthy lifestyle. Any information you can derive from these results is appreciated.

Male - 18 y/o
5’11
165 ibs

Total: 5.51 mmol/L
HDL: 1.26 mmol/L
LDL: 4.05 mmol/L

Fasted Blood Sugar: 4.1 mmol/l (CAD) or 84 mg/dl (US)
AM Cortisol: 524 nmol/L (CAD) or 19 µg/dL (US)
Free Test: 28.6 pg/ml or 2.86 ng/dl

Geez, another non-US member? can you put that into US measurements?

Uhh… They’re canadian measurements. I’ll see what I can do.

Added.

To convert from mmol/L to mg/dL multiply by 38.67.

Total: 5.51 mmol/L = 213 mg/dL
HDL: 1.26 mmol/L = 49 mg/dL
LDL: 4.05 mmol/L = 157 mg/dL

Ratio (total / HDL) = 4.37

I presume you fasted 12-14 hrs minimum (only water) for accurate results.

These are not good numbers. HDL should be >50, LDL < 130, total < 200, and ratio < 4.2 :

Your doctor is an idiot, these are not normal numbers. But perhaps he meant that these are an improvement over what you had before?

What were your triglycerides?
Do you do cardio?
