Black Rice?

I was at the store last night and saw a bag of rice with really dark purplish black grains. Anyone know anything about it or eat it?

Just curious

Don’t be prejudiced! Buy the black rice!

Here is a whole site… http://www.blackrice.com/

It’s good.

Ct. have you tried Rice n’ Shine? It’s grits made from 100% rice, a Tennessee body builder should get down on that.

More earthy /nutty than just flavorless white rice but it’s not over powering.

NO you don’t!

It’s good, but generally pretty expensive when I’ve found it at the store. And, generally I prefer the texture of something like jasmine rice, whereas black rice has a texture closer to that of brown rice. It is loaded with anthocyanins, though. At the very least, it’s worth giving a try.

Thanks. I will pick up a bag soon.

You’re right, its like 6 bucks for what looks like 4 cups. Crazy.

I normally use basamtti brown and love it. Been meaning to try jasmine too.

No, no! Remember… Ct loves Arabian women.

So his slogan would be “I Love Grime (girls raised in the middle east)”

Purple potatoes. Ton of antioxidants and health benefits. But like this black rice you speak of, they’re a bit hard to find. I might consider growing my own. http://www.webmd.com/hypertension-high-blood-pressure/news/20110830/purple-potatoes-lower-blood-pressure

On a related not, my Taiwanese mother in law asked me why I can’t be more like Jeremy Lin.

Interestingly, Black beans have many of the same anthocyanins & other beneficial nutrients as black rice–at a fraction of the cost.

Sticky black rice makes a wicked rice pudding.
Just use equal parts black and arborio rice, cook out in coconut milk, add a cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, finely ground black pepper and sugar to taste.
It is best to soak the black rice first as it takes a little while longer to cook.

Expensive, but good tasting and good for you. Great source of I3G too
