Bioimpedance for Bodyfat %

My wife just got me one of those digital scales with the electrodes to supposedly measure bodyfat percentage. Now I readily admit I’m not as lean as I used to be but this thing put me at 27% bodyfat. I weigh about 180 lbs and (according to the scale) that means that I’m carrying around 48 lbs of fat. I think I’d know that if it were true. I mean, my arms and legs are still lean and my back is fairly defined.

Anyway, my question is: does anybody have any personal experience with the accuracy of these digital scales and the bioimpedance analysis?

No, seriously.

the first.

It put me at about, hrmmmm 30% or so when I hopped on. I had gotten caliper pinched at about 15 or so that day. So they are way off in my opinion. :stuck_out_tongue:

As the Prof noted: This has been discussed ad nauseum. Bottom line: They are a convenient way to keep track of changes but you can’t trust the absolute numbers. I’ll bet you measure drastically differently if you measure in the morning vs. the evening. Use the scale at the same time or average your readings. Then use it to track fat loss progress.

Thanks Prof. You obviously keep track of the threads here. I’ve been a lurker since T-mag’s inception but I don’t watch all the threads.

There’s nothing to track. This site has been up for over 6 years now. Chances are, nearly every general question being asked has been asked before. I am just amazed at how few ever seem to use the search function.

This particular topic must come up once every other month. That means people just don’t pay attention.
