Big Pharma and Big Media

Once again, you are on the verge of failing to get a response from me. If you can’t be more civil, you soon won’t.

That said, some people get all sorts of things in life that others don’t–nice cars, luxurious homes, etc. Unless one is a communist, there’s nothing immoral or unethical about this.

It would be nice if govt tax receipts could cover heroic (or futile, depending on one’s perspective) care for everyone. They can’t. It’s that simple. Thus, hard choices will have to be made.

That was socialist bait and you didn’t fall for it.

I’m all for people who put in long hours getting better coverage and better quality of said coverage. People who self-inflict ailments and then require that other people must pay for them aren’t helpful to anyone.

Just had a really long day and hope to come back with more thoughts later, but there is something that bothers me about this: your proposal is rational, but only stable as long as politicians are not accounted for. Once government gets its hooks into something (yes, yes, I know they already have their hooks in healthcare in a 100 ways) there is only one direction their involvement proceeds in: increasing.

I don’t like this for philosophical reasons, because if history has shown me anything related to government it is that they are beholden to the mob (low info voters from which they get their career seats in Congress) and that they demagogue the mob to score points against the “Other”.

Practically speaking I believe this means that once a plan such as you propose is put into place it will inevitably slide towards a more all-encompassing, higher tax rate, more bureaucratic system. Philosophically I can’t support that as a limited government type (don’t get me started on the hypocrisy of the parties)

The public. And your point is?

When politicians talk about healthcare it is always centered around costs. Which is very important. However the approach, which is more important IMO, is never talked about. Drugs are not the answer. Fuck Big Pharma! I don’t care if they all go out of business. The overwhelming majority of industrialized countries have some form of single payer. They pay far less than the public in this country often with better overall results. It seems the more healthcare a person receives in this country the worse off they are. The healthcare in this country is a tragedy.

That’s why people in socialized countries pinch their pennies to get private healthcare either at home or come to the USA. You are a moron. Have you even talked to someone in one of these so-called medical utopias of yours? You seem to be just regurgitating propaganda.

Yeah, it all sounds good on paper. Hell, socialism sounds fantastic in theory, as long are you are willing to ignore the fact that people are human beings (with motivations and de-motivations) as well as having human rights (Voltaire, etc).

The public sector takes its money from profitable private enterprise. No profits, no public sector.

More people leave the U.S. for treatments than come to this country. If the population of the other countries thought their healthcare was so bad then why wouldn’t they fight for U.S.-style healthcare? Is it because they want to avoid bankruptcy? Or maybe they don’t want the costs to escalate while the standards decline? You can try to avoid the facts as long as you want but they are everywhere around the world just making you look like the brainwashed fool that you are.

The public sector takes it’s money from the public and less and less from the wealthy. Both from individuals and corporations.

What people don’t understand about healthcare in Canada is you pay for it in the form of long wait times.

A test you can pay for to have done immediately in America you will have to wait months. If you have cancer that’s a horrendous proposition

Sure, for unproven or elective “medical spa” treatments.

For organ transplants and other complex life saving treatments you couldn’t be more wrong.

Wrong again I’m afraid. According to the IRS the top 40% of income earners pay 106% of the taxes. The bottoms 60% pay -9%.

From CNBC

Most of America doesn’t understand how much the “rich” pay. If they did left wing loons like Bernie Sanders and others would not draw the crowds they do.

The myth that the rich use loop holes to avoid paying taxes is ridiculous for the most part.

Thats because they play funny games with the ratios. The 98% pay a higher percentage individually of a smaller total contribution, while the other 2% pay a smaller individual percentage of a much greater total amount.

Are you making the old “lucky duckies” argument?

The wait time propaganda again.

And for medically helpful things they can’t get in the U.S. like stem cell therapy.

No. That falls directly under medical spa/unproven.

I meant to say that the wealthy have been paying far fewer taxes then they once were. The Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 signed by President George W. Bush has been estimated as one of the biggest tax cuts in history. This act introduced a new low income tax rate of 10%, increased the child tax credit, adjusted the tax brackets for married couples, and reduced the top 4 tax rates.

Where are all the jobs with these tax cuts?

In addition wealthy people receive the majority of their wealth from capital gains not income.

A misunderstanding is that the wealthy get most of their wealth from income, when they get it from capital gains. All people have to do is look at the taxation of other countries or the past of the U.S. and you can see how much better economies do.
